Re: What to do when someone asks you a direct question.

hit em with the good old "theres too much in the pot to fold" when ur bluffing and they think about it over 10 seconds, guarantees a fold 100% of the time

This. Never say anything, you have nothing to gain.

For a focus spot, I like to look at my opponents hands. You avoid the eye contact game, and surprisingly you can learn things about people from the things they do with their hands, fingers, etc.

Plus if I stare at their lower body they might get the wrong idea.

If you have a poker face, answer all questions by telling a lie.

Re: What to do when someone asks you a direct question.

If you're asked a direct question, give an indirect answer. Then it's their turn to give you more information about what they have.

Of course, you could always go full comedy and say something outrageous like, "I swear on my mother's grave I have the nuts here. BTW not showing if you fold."

Statue is OK, but nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Re: What to do when someone asks you a direct question.

Reading this thread I taught of an answer.
It only works if your opponent asks you if you have a specific, really strong starting hand, like "Do you have aces?"
The answer: "No I don't. I usually fold them preflop"

I do this randomly, perhaps as part of a clown show, and I am a bit of a clown at the table IRL.

I peal my first card and say, "ace", and then I peal my second card and say, "ace", and it's almost always a trash hand, and it lands in the muck. And then I say, "See, I threw away aces for you guys."
