I played a somewhat sick hand in my local poker room this weekend.

We're 12 players left in a field of 40, 100$ deep stack, blinds are at 2000/4000.

I have about 120 000 behind, villain has 110 000.

I am dealt A 10 , we are 6 way and I open to 10 000 from UTG+1. Folded around to villain in the BB who calls.

Flop: 3 6 K Check-check.

Turn: J .
I lead for 7000, and then he begins holding his head, moaning, waving with his hands, getting agitated and unable to sit still and saying "what kind of a ****ing spot have you got me into here". It is obvious that he's very distraught or acting like it. I suspect the last, and that he's holding a flush and that the raise could come at any time. He then counts out the call, throws them in while saying "well, I have to try".

River: 4
Once again he checks, shakes his head and looks very agitated. I'm thinking about what to do and it strikes me that it probably just looks too good to be true. The club is a fairly serious one, and I know that the player has been placing well in several tournaments, not sure if he's pro or not, but I suspected it. He probably knows very well that the tell he's giving means strength and that I know it as well, and he might be using it to his advantage. I decide to chuck 10 000 into the pot.

He drops his head onto the filt, pulls his hoodie up and it looks as if he's about to cry. After half a minute he looks up, says "all in", and I snap call. Embarrassed, he turns over his Q 8

Have you ever seen this kind of tell?

When people 'act' I think there are a couple of things to look for ...

1) Does it look natural or is it a bit too much acting
2) How long does it carry on

Not sure what he felt there was to gain here, but the way you describe the Turn it made me feel like it was an act. You really aren't pressuring him at all on the Turn. 7K is a pretty small bet for him to get into all the acting with over 20bb behind.

Unless you had already decided to call any raise/shove on the River I'm not sure what you are trying to gain by betting the 10K. You may have been thinking he wold fold out any pairs less than Jx. You say you snap called, I've been in a few 'Ace high' spots where I just felt like it was good as well.

To me, this type of behavior from a reg (Pro?) coming out of nowhere in this type of spot really is surprising. Now if he was down to 12bb or it was a bubble of some sort, then maybe it 'plays' better.

Being at the table and gauging the V mood prior to the hand is key here as well. If he was chip leader and went card dead or things just weren't going his way the last couple of orbits then that may be another item to factor into your judgement here. GL

I could have checked it down, but I was already certain that he was weak, he had no hand and that I could get a ton of value, so I proceeded with a relatively small bet that represented a king, jack or pocket pair and fear of him holding the flush so that I could induce a raise. When he shoved, I was almost certain that he was holding garbage or at most a small pair.

I highly doubt that was premeditated.

Even if your read is right, it's hard for him to have a complete air ball here that c/c on the turn instead of just leading himself (which most air would do, I would assume).

You're more likely to own yourself on the river when he turns 44s, 5s6 or something into bluff shove than you are to see Qs8 imo.
