Players shows card signifying weakness, I'm strong, what to do? Players shows card signifying weakness, I'm strong, what to do?

Not necessarily a behavior question, I guess, more a strat question.

Game is $5-10 NLHE. Several limps. I limp button A6o.

Flop 663r. The SB, a loose player, bets $20 into $60. Everyone folds to me. The SB doesn't see I'm still in and flips over a card, which I don't see. We all inform him I'm still in and he turns his card back over.

I ask him, jokingly, "What was it?" And he actually turns it over and shows a 3, which I didn't expect him to do. I ask him, "Why'd you do that?" And he says jokingly, "You told me to."

Now I'm not really sure what to do. I figure my best line is to min-raise because if I just call it looks super-suspicious and strong because if I was vulnerable or weak I wouldn't want to give him a free card. So I min-raise and he folds of course.

In hindsight, considering the player isn't a very serious player, I think I should have just called in the hopes that he catches a 3 or hits his kicker and maybe gets more tied to the hand. And in hindsight, I should have just snap put the call in as soon as possible, so it wouldn't look like I'd overthought it at all.

Probably not much I can do to get him to lose more, considering he knows I know he has a 3. But just found it interesting.

In a spot like this where the opponent is very engaging I would say something like this ...

"Well, I have some overs so lets see another card." And I might even bet in the dark if I had 'betting' position on him, which we don't have here. I have bet dark OOP a few times as well, but that was against a reg with lots of history.

I don't think I would raise him unless I tied it into my comments somehow, but it is a consideration. GL

If V is decent, this verbal misdirection can hurt you. OP knows best course of action was to call immediately, no long pause, no questions.

bomb it to 200-300 or even ship. hes folding most turns anyway so give him a chance to level himself into a hero. I'd probably do similar if i had air as well.

As far as why he would show you the 3, he may have felt obligated to since other players saw it.

Once I saw the 3, I would just call and let him try to boat up. If he does you might get his stack.

tanking here before calling could convey that youd be reluctant to put money in if not for the fact that you know one of his hole cards, thus potentially making him want to protect his hand more? the most important thing here is that you have a recreational player who has probably confused himself, and you do not want to risk giving that up by leading him out of his mess. confused fish tend to make mistakes more often than normal if given the chance. he could easily feel the need to try and represent 3's full to make up for his blunder, and you dont want to deny him the opportunity to think like that.
