New Poker Room Opens in Central FLA New Poker Room Opens in Central FLA

Oxford Downs Poker Room opened this week in Summerfield. Poker only. Decent set up, 24 tables, good tables, spacious layout between tables, mostly 1-2 NL and small limit games (will see if they have 2-5 on weekend), decent grub people are saying, attendance not bad so far for soft opening. High hands $300 hourly. Some of the employee stuff is off the charts green but to be expected from new area. A little greener than green maybe. Don't be a rude hater, we've all been in new jobs before with no clue.

Prediction: I'm gonna run good with aces in this joint ... gonna win with'em 23 times in a row. Keep you posted, scouts honor. 1-0 so far. LOL.

Funny I see this thread just as I am packing for a trip to Orlando. I have Saturday to myself, I'm curious if this place will be a flop. It's main hope is that it will attract The Villages crowd (huge upscale retirement community right down the road, I'm sure plenty of whales will be there). Will probably be competing with Daytona and Tampa for the Orlando area players. I might take the drive just to see the place, it can't hurt to have more places to play IMO.

Seems a bit silly as there's a poker room within a 30min-hour drive in basically every direction of it --- not great for the player pools. But maybe they'll just kill off that poorly run Ocala room.

The surrounding rooms are over an hour away (besides Ocala, 45 minutes) and I think it will kill off Ocala. Others - Tampa, Jax, Daytona - 75 minute to 2 hour range.

That's the big question: will The Villages supply major influx of contributors> They are here, tend to be well-to-do, but I doubt the whale thing. They are notoriously conservative as retirees. But well-heeled bodies are enough.

Room was very slow on a Friday night. Two 2/5 games and four 1/2, and a couple of little limit games. 8 tables total going at 9 PM and only five at midnight. I was disappointed. Tuesday and Friday were busier. Oh, and I got aces beat so so much for that prediction.

Still too far. The day a poker room opens within ~25 mins of downtown Orlando is the day Daytona closes up shop and Tampa loses half its pool. The Mouse will never let that happen though.

Anybody know a phone number for this room? Nothing on their website or facebook page that I could find.

Thanks, Greg Raymer (FossilMan)

Is 35 minutes close enough? Orange City Racing and Card Club.
