I dont know if other players do this, but i only found out on holiday in Vegas when my friends told me. And that was....

When i had a pocket pair i never checked my cards, when i had any other hand I would go back to check my cards

For example when you know you have pocket 8s, you dont ever need to check your cards again unless it maybe comes 4 to a flush or something. As you know you have 88. But when i had say King Queen i would go back to check my cards (or any other hand) perhaps out of habit or perhaps out of 'double checking' youve got the right hand.

And when you think about it... its quite a massive tell. As on any ace, king, queen high board i can probably be bluffed off (as you know pocks A, K and Q's would 3 bet, 4 bet pre etc..) And even 4 to a flush would be pretty easy to bluff someone off for the same reasons

Also at the time i was still pretty new to poker which no doubt added to me doing it. As now i pretty much only look at my hand once unless i have to make a big call or something. but its pretty funny that i was literally clueless to the fact i was doing it until my friends told me. But i guess thats exactly why they are tells! But i feel its definately 1 to keep in mind. even if it only works vs new players

I think its more likely that people do this with suited cards. Its way easier to remember that you had T8 compared to T8, or even TT. I dont think its very common to forget which card-ranks you had, but you might forget what suits you had, or which card was what suit, etc. Therefore Ive made it a routine to allways recheck my cards before the flop gets dealt (2 peeks at the cards should be sufficient!), to avoid giving away information by rechecking different hands different amounts or at different times.

I tend to agree with both of you. Players that 'double check' their cards, especially PF, are making sure that, yes, they do connect in the manner I think they do. This can be both in rank and suit (or both obviously). The more closely they connect, the less they need to look at them.

I love to watch players who look at one card at a time PF since they can give off 'more' information based on their actions.

Another one that you can 'check out' is that a player will cap their cards more quickly with paired/connected cards .. even before the action is on them PF.

Once the Flop comes out, players who smash the Flop wont need to double check their cards (unless false tell) when compared to a player who has ... say a pair and a gut shot and is calculating pot odds while they look at their holding. GL

I always check my hand before calling an all in with the nuts. That one is a good habit.

If you find yourself checking your cards from time to time on a 3 flush board to see if you have one of that suit, do it other times when you already have the flush or know you have suited cards not of that suit. Some slight balancing helps.

Looking at one card at a time just opens the door up for 'extra' information to anyone that is watching.

Do you ever re-check your first card when you think you have 9-4? Probably not. But you certainly do double check your black AQ cards to see if they are suited or not.

If you use the same routine regardless of the cards, then you aren't giving anything away.

People will snap their cards back down really quick when they are Aces so 'no one can see them' but they may take a longer look at 99 since it's a marginal raising hand while they think it through. No thinking to AA, for most ppl anyway. GL

I tend to double check huge pairs, like aces or kings. It is more a tendency to make sure I have what I thought I had. Not sure if others have picked up on this

I'm a chronic double checker. Developed because I knew I was often double checking my moderate hands, and rarely checking my big ones. I've also noticed that I occasionally think that I have the cards from the last hand... and double checking has stopped me from acting on wrong information.

I did see a video once that centered on the amount of time a player spent looking at their hole cards. The gist was a long look meant marginal, and a quick decisive peek meant strong.

I look at every hand for 3-4 seconds and say the cards in my head 3 times so I never have to recheck and I never look back at my cards the rest of the way. Find a consistent pattern and never deviate.

I look at others eyes instead of the flop/ its extremely rare that anybody is even attempting to get a read on you at 1/2.

Usually I don't look back at my smaller pairs, but I do double take my larger pairs. Nothing worse than thinking you have AA only to get called and roll over A4

i will usually look at my cards once quickly, and re-memorize them before the flop is opened
