And Mason is writing a book entitled Real Poker Psychology.
Hi Everyone:
I'm going to follow up on this since there is a substantial amount in my book on tilt which should be released in early December. But putting it into one quick paragraph, tilt is mainly caused by events that your mind can't solve or understand. That is your mind will view certain events as impossible, such as several bad beats in a short period of time, which you may think is just too many to be ever happen. That is you have no solution as to how this can occur and thus your mind locks up into something like an infinite programming loop (trying to solve what I call a logic disconnect).
And the solution is to improve your understanding of all things poker such as why rare events can be much more common than they at first appear (and this is all explained in the book). By the way, an interesting thing is that tilt is closely related to humor except that in humor your mind is able to solve the logic disconnect.
Best wishes,
Mason
PS: If your problem is sometimes playing too loose, this isn't necessarily tilt. My book,
Real Poker Psychology, describes two other situations where some players will begin to play too many hands, but on these occasions the player in question can still think rationally which is something a tilted player can't do.
Best wishes,
Mason
