re: Jaime Staples

Well no just like anything on this internet... Monetizing is hard and getting a following is hard... If you're getting 28 viewers you're doing it for free basically

Twitch streamers make money from ad revenue, but it's usually a pittance. Something like $2.50 per 1000 views, assuming those viewers aren't using an ad blocker (and around 80% of viewers use an ad blocker). So for all intents and purposes, the money they make from ads is negligible.

Most streams make the vast majority of their money off donations but sadly people don't donate much to poker streamers compared to other streamers. It is understandable considering that they are gambling and donating to them is kind of weird.

Someone suggested streaming during soft timeslots, but those are going to be harder to come by I think. It's getting very competitive. At the same time, the directory seems to be becoming more popular. A rising tide lifts all boats?

My guess is that he and carver share the same audience. More fun viewers that aren't so interested about the strategy. It didn't affect so much to tonkaas numbers when carver was on the air allso.

re: Jaime Staples

I understand wanting to grow an overall brand, but this guy needs shift his focus back onto working on his game and playing winning poker rather then blowing all his money on video editing.

People watch Polk and Tonka because they are winning regs that give lower stakes players something to stride towards, not because of good production quality.

Yikes. Good guess, Kossu. I just checked everyone else's graph for yesterday and nobody really took a hit at 3PM. It's remarkable (and unfortunate for Jaime) how much overlap there is between these two audiences in particular.

Ya was wondering how stapler spiked to 2.5k + but apparently he was on the FP of twitch yesterday which would make sense and then regressed to 800-900 viewers. With Sommerville entrenched in the #1 spot, Tonka and doug will battle for #2 #3(seeing how doug streams alot of cash/ tonkaa will likely be the #2 because of the love twitch viewers have for mtts). #4 realistically is a position the stapler can battle for vs Lex / kmart etc which is an accomplishment on its own and enough viewers that he's he carved out a living from.. Jaime has done a lot of good things for twitch poker and i wish him the best going forward on his poker and health journey

re: Jaime Staples

Question for the Doug Polk shills: Why has Polk suddenly started streaming at 6:30am PST and don't give me any of this hogwash like Doug says that it's to cater to his European fans. There's more viewer monetization in the N.American market. Catering to the Europeans don't make no sense. It quite obvious Polk's trying to stream in a time slot where there's no competition because his viewership gets drastically cut when he's competing with the big dogs i.e Carver, Staples & TonkaaaaP.

What I find confusing is how Polk always keep changing his scheduling around. Right now he's only playing MTT's on Sunday and cash on the other 3 days, oh and he's still hiding his whole cards which is certainly turning off a lot of his viewers. This guy is not only losing credibility as a streamer in not being able finish his 100 to 10k challenge but he's also losing a ton of money at midstakes & highstakes cash on Stars. For someone who many consider an "endboss" yeah maybe if you're playing on easy level that might be the case. If you want to see a winning cash game player who sometimes streams cash look no further than to Nanonoko.

Here's today top Twitch Poker streamers. The only reason Elky is #1 is like I said before he's deep in a 1,500,000 guaranteed tournament. The 1 and 2 spots belong to Carver & Staples who would have thunk

There is a thing called variance that you might want too look into in regards to losing... He's streaming earlier sometimes due to the fact that some of the wcoops are running that early in the day and If i was playing a 100k and 10k buy ins,,, I wouldn't want to show my hole cards either.. Pretty standard stuff here... Also

I highly doubt that someone who made millions off poker, beat the best hu players in the world, competed with the best 6max players in the world.. 5 million in live winnings... Shipped multiple 6 mix figure scores in online mtts cares about what twitch viewers think... Proof is in lifetime results... Not a session

re: Jaime Staples

I'm certainly no "Doug Polk Shill" but he was streaming 2knl all yesterday with cards up the whole time.

I've watched his stream a decent amount over the past month or so and he doesn't seem to be running particularly well. He ran like absolute dog**** during the bankroll challenge portion of the stream and WCOOP doesn't seem a whole lot better.

Doug seems to oscillate between fun, sarcastic, witty guy and ego-maniacal douchebag so I'm not particularly invested in his streams the way I am with some others.

Also, pokercasual calling anybody else a "shill" is totally LULZ.

Also i forgot to add 2 wsop braclets and a scoop title win... Plays highstakes 8game and plo as well.. I'm not a big fan of doug either but he's by far the most accomplished poker player on twitch... Easily

Because he is out of the country because of WCOOP. I think he cares more about giving up his strategy to high stakes reg then he does about losing a couple viewers. FWIW I have never seen anyone complain about the *HOLE* cards being covered. Most people understand it is needed at the stakes he plays.

He has said 100s of times that he is putting the BR challenge on hold until WCOOP ends and he comes back to Vegas. He can't even play on WSOP outside of Nevada and that is the site he is doing the challenge on.

LOL, even the other nosebleed regs agree that Doug is the HU NL end boss. You do know there is variance in poker? Especially when you are playing nothing but other great players. It really isn't an opinion, it is a fact. One thing we finally agree on Nanonoko, is an awesome winning streamer but he can't touch Polk.

So I had a look at pokercasuals posts... His comments should be ignored.. All his posts are about bashing Polk and he was also that moron who started the stupid thread about tonkaa and his tweet... This guy sucks... Ignore his comments on any subject and move forward with the thread

Proof that Jamie is good for the game. I'm not sure why he even turned this thread into a Doug Polk bashing thread. Maybe he is a hater since Polk has only been streaming for about 5 months and gets 3 times the viewers Staples does after 3 years(and declining)

re: Jaime Staples

I've known Jaime on this and other forums for a good while and he seems really helpful and knowledgeable about poker. I am really pleased PokerStars picked him up. I have watched a few hours of his stream, I learnt a bit about the game, and was entertained. I'm glad he does twitch.

Playing MTTs is a tough life, I've often thought it is a bit like being a Rocky Balboa boxer. You shuffle into the ring and then somebody beats the crap out of you for a while. Your hope is that you can stay standing long enough to take something home and that maybe in time you'll get so punch drunk you'll stop noticing the bad beats. Jaime has adapted well to the toughness of the game and found ways to soften some of the hard blows - I'm sure he will continue to adapt and do well.

My advice would be to support the good people knocking around in poker, support the streamers, it's probably a lot harder to do than it looks.

And here's some advice from Rocky:
Quote:
But it ain't about how hard ya hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done!
I am looking forward to watching a lot of stuff from Jaime, Doug, Tonkaaa, EasyWithAces ... and many, many, more streamers. Gl to all of them.

Yes, Polk gets a different audience because he streams mostly cash. Yeah nano hasn't been a winning cash game player for a few years. I heard from a couple of midstakes regs that he is a mark/fish in midstakes cash games.

re: Jaime Staples

I genuinly feel bad for Jaime. Having such a massive downswing and even worse documenting all of it for the people to see must suck big time.

But on the other hand it does not seem like he has learned his lesson. He has no business what so ever at the highest stakes in MTTs, he was on a heater and binked the $109 twice which caused him to bite of more than he could chew resulting in the massive downswing he had. I see legit crushers and GOATs doubting if they are +EV in the 200s-1ks, and here comes Jaime Staples thinking that he actually has a edge in the thrill or the ST.

Tbh he should just stick to the mid stakes where he actually is profitable, instead of torching money on stream playing 1ks.

re: Jaime Staples

one factor that has likely hit his viewing figures is probably down to pushing the pokermarket shares for sale on his stream. If he had been selling a share of all of his action ,it would probably have been less disastrous for him that what he did do , which was keeping the lower buyins for himself where he was making money and selling parts of his higher buyin action where he was losing money hand over fist.
His viewers who bought shares would then see him "winning" on the low buy ins and expecting their cut they were disappointed when the part that they had bought bricked and no payout coming their way.I brought it up at the same time as the bfizz scandal and staples said that people weren't buying on his results but as part of entertainment. I'm guessing that with his downswing, his viewers losing their own money don't find it very entertaining and moved elsewhere. Once you've annoyed viewers when they don't get payouts when they were expecting one because of his "crafty" selling of packages, they will move elsewhere , rather than having salt rubbed in their wounds.
