No wonder hes getting anxiety when people are leaving because he ain't getting money from poker. Especially if he loses the sponshorhip. Atleast he admits being more a fun player to the fun player audience.

Say what you will about the stapler and his declining viewership , since the ps sponsorship / twitch cash game score the poker ecosystem has benefited (ie scoops / wcoops / $1k's / $215 etc ) over the last year he's been doing his part !!!

Hey guys,

Thanks for checking out the vlog.

I wanted to chime in a little to say that I think the title is a little sensationalized haha. I address this thread in my vlog for tomorrow so hopefully you can get some clarity but just wanted to assure you that depression and anxiety isn't a major part of my life, and when it is a part of my life, its not because I have less people watching me.

It's something that happens, and I do my best to deal with it, but 9 times out of 10 I am feeling good.

Jaime

So you are paying over 70k a year in production cost for videos that are only getting 12k views.

Seems like your customer acquisition cost is a little to high

Vlog linked in OP seems really open and honest and I agree that the title is a bit over the top. As someone who is also sort of embedded in poker, streaming, brand building, content creation and marketing I find Jaime's story incredibly interesting. I look forward to the journey.

The term "suffering" seems highly unnecessary, "dealing with" might be more appropriate. That said, what support has Pokerstars offered being an employer. I'm curious to know that. Furthermore, I don't think I know anyone who doesn't have a little anxiety in their bubble. It's called living life!.

That's not what Jamie said, and the title of the post is very misleading to say the least.

As poker players, everyone gets anxious from time to time, specially MTT players. Getting close to the money, but never binking doesn't really help, and if I recall correctly, he has FT a big and a hot this month without grinding that much... so he may not be the best.... but he's at least really good.

why does the vlog have cuts every 2-3 seconds? its very distracting if you watch the video, not just listening the audio.

I think it's edited like that. Maybe he takes pauses when talking and the editors decided to cut that.

the question is why is it necessery to edit the footage this heavily. i think this type of editing not really fits vlogs and also not very pleasing for the eyes.

re: Jaime Staples

In Jaime's old thread, a couple of us tried to warn him that we were losing interest in his stream, and gave very specific reasons as to why. His stream's become like what i imagine an episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians is like: talk about tooth veneers and losing weight, wanting to grow their social media following, having outrageous expenses for personal assistants/chefs and video editors, travel ... what do they do for a living again? I suppose their show is their job, so their show is about them having a show. While Jaime's stream has become a stream about Jaime having a stream and growing the stream.

The loss of focus/interest in poker is what caused me to lose focus/interest in Jaime's stream. I think his sharkscope graph, from what we were able to see of it before he put a lock on it, was an accurate reflection of that loss of interest too. We tuned in to watch a guy who had made $80k playing poker over several years from his parents' basement; and probably a lot of us tuned out after that same guy lost about $60k in less than one.

Maybe Jaime's not living the same life he used to be though, so maybe by doubling down on the focus on the stream, he'll be able to replace his old following with a new one. Jaime's still the same guy at heart though, so I do wish him well. Good luck Staples.

Going for that Jenna Marbles Youtube celeb look. Certainly doesn't fit men nor vlogs.

But damn, is the 60k downswing real? That is crazy and probably the cause of depression, not going from 2k viewers to 1k viewers. Why would he invest 7k/month into a stream with only 2k viewers? Even streamers with about 10k viewers a stream on games that actually get donations make around that much. Sounds like he got a little carried away. Who knows how much his sponsorship is paying him though.

re: Jaime Staples

I enjoy watching his brother[pokerstaplesPA] just for the fact that you can see every tourny that Matt plays, it seems to mean so much to him. He gets a little nervous sometimes and sometimes says outloud "i just dont know what to do in this spot". I like that honesty. While Jamie does seem to be a fairly honest person, the higher stake mtts he plays seem to be out of his skill level and i think viewers pick up on that and arent respecting his thought analysis. If he focused on lower buyins and made the stream about making money off of poker instead of always talking about "growing" his stream, i think people would respect him more.

Do you guys even have a real life? Like life isn't easy and if everyone vlogged about it everyday and was actually honest you would see that. Being a poker player is the lifestyle that everyone dreams about. Decent living with the possibility to make tons of money, travel, own schedule etc. You don't have to watch a twitch stream or vlog to see that poker can have negative physical and mental effects. Just go to any casino.

I have been critical of jaime before, most of the time in a joking/troll sense but I hope really successful and gets out of life want he wants. I would love to talk to him about certain things like motivation because I don't always agree with the way he looks at things. Seems like he is looks at things in a my philosophical sense where I view things of a get things done sense.

Good luck to Jaime with the move and I hope he binks something soon to shut up all the haters.

Jesus, did you even watch his vlog? In it, he acknowledges that his main source of income is his Stars sponsorship, not poker.

I know you mean well, but I think you're doing him a disservice by ignoring the fact that those 4-figure buy-ins have turned poker into a net negative for him this year. Because the fact that he's not winning money playing poker any more might very well be the reason why he's been losing so many viewers besides just me.

I wouldn't have bothered sticking my neck out to let Jaime know that might be an additional reason for the sagging viewership, if I didn't want to see him do well. Armed with that knowledge, I think he should be better able to figure out which direction to take his stream.

Huh? My first paragraph is talking about how life is hard and the negative mental health effects poker players going after the dream can have on it. If everyone vlogged their lives, regardless of their profession, it would probably sound a lot like Jaimes vlogs.

re: Jaime Staples

I think Jaime could still make a good amount of $ and pull more viewers from twitch if he could consistently stream like he use to. I use to hop on twitch often and always see Jaime streaming now its just once or twice a week. I think also streaming lower buy in MTTs eliminates some viewers being that its not as interesting as the higher stakes MTTs. Also maybe try streaming when Polk, Somerville, and Tonka are not on. I think its to much of a good opportunity to not take full advantage of. Either way I think Jaime is good for twitch & the poker economy for bringing in new players or helping keep the interest of people playing already. Good luck in the future and hopefully we will see more of you on twitch.

I lost interest in listening to Jamie months ago when it started to turn from poker from soap opera. Last week I tried listening to him again, and it was even more soap-operaish than I remembered it.

It sounds like you have Jamie's best interests at heart. It's a major turn off. Months ago he should have moved down to lower stakes, and focused on poker, not his baggage.

re: Jaime Staples

Here are my 2 cents:

I follow the different streams since the beginning, and I think Jaime is wrong, when he says, people do not want to see another person who tells them shove X here and there, etc.

People watch a poker stream, because they want to see poker hands, deep runs in tournaments and a sweat when their streamer makes a FT.

No one can expect all the advise given on a stream be 100% correct, in fact it does not even matter. Just make it to the best of your knowledge and just ignore the haters who crtisice your poker skill.

It helps when the stakes are higher to generate more viewers, but I do not think it was necassary to play the Supertuesday or the Thrill for Jaime.

In fact, I believe it was a mistake for him to play these tournaments in the first place.

It seemed he was underrolled and not skilled enough to beat those.(maybe I am wrong here)

But the more important thing I think was it devalued his other content, by people always demanding him to play these high buyin tourneys.

I think if he kept grinding on a regular schedule, within his comfortable buyin range(maybe 10-50$), with the occasional sunday highlight (warm up, milly), his stream could still go strong, and viewership would skyrocket when he goes deep in something.

He could just stream at the same time on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday and avoid Tuesday and Thursday, when Tonka, etc. stream their big tourneys.

His production costs would be much lower, and you can only grow a stream, if there is a regular stream. People should not be getting disappointed, when they think:Hey its 10pm on a Monday evening, I want to watch a little bit of Jaime streaming.

I do not think these super expensive youtube vids are a way to get much more viewers.

Anyway, good luck with your stream/content.
