Your complaints are fake.
A lot of the fun in the game is collecting and getting the fancy legendary cards. If there wasn't that part of the game, it'd just be like play money poker and we all know how fun that is. You can play a ton of games where collecting is irrelevant, this isn't one of those games.
To me it's obviously fun to win but it's fun to get new cards. I've spent around 100 dollars on the game but countless hours. At times it's fun, at times it's a drag, but that's true with any game. If you don't enjoy it, quit or find a way to make it better.
With that being said, the new expansion and meta isn't that fun to play. I still play but not as much as I used to--I'm also pretty busy with work these days.
The game does suck for a new player, but guess what it sucks for a new player in every game. In order to get better, just like in everything you have to spend time in it. Complaining about games is just stupid because you can easily just not play the game if you don't like the economy, rules or other players.
How about everyone wins? Would that make the game more fun?
This is a really good post. Happy to plusjuan it.
I've had several people ask me when I've told them I'm playing HS: "Is it yet another one of those pay2win online games?" And I respond: "Well, it's not exactly pay2win, but it's not exactly
not pay2win, if that makes sense."
But in a very real sense, that's misleading. Even if you have access to all the cards or, to make the example more realistic, all the cards you want for a particular deck you're constructing, you still have to be able to play them. You have to know how the cards synergize (god what a ****ty word) with each other, when to play them, how to map out future turns, etc etc. And let's face it, you also have to get a bit lucky from time to time. But for the most part, the short answer is that you still have to not be bad.
I take myself for example. When I started I was determined not to spend any money on the game so I just played what was available after the tutorials. It was a very frustrating experience. I contemplated quitting more than once. It got to the point where whenever someone threw down Dr. Boom I'd insta concede. It seemed pointless. I finally broke down and paid for Naxx and BRD and started buying GvG decks here and there because I wanted to try certain builds like patron warrior and that was the only way to do it. Maybe I'm a HS fish idk, I just felt like it was either that or stop playing.
But even once I had the cards to play patron warrior, I still wasn't winning much. Hell, I downloaded that UI that tracks your stats just last week and my winrate with patron warrior is STILL absurdly low, I'm something like 11-29 with it since I started keeping track and have yet to get above 14 with it (which is why I e-chuckle when I see people itt complaining about it so much, but that's for another discussion). The fact of the matter is that, even though I have all the cards I need, I still have to play them well (and get good early draws, same as literally any other deck) or I'm gonna have a bad time. I did pay for them, true, but even if Hearthstone Jesus had miracled all the the cards into my collection, I'd still be right where I am right now.
In any event, yeah I get why people complain about various aspects of the game (Bobbo just listed some legit actual irl complaints that I share for the most part) but complaining about not getting enough free **** isn't a valid complaint. It has never been a valid complaint. It will never be a valid complaint. /rantoff
