That said, I've let it stick around in its own thread instead of merging it into the raked game sticky because...well, because I'm inconsistent, I guess.
Would you consider a game conducted in my home where a BBJ rake was taken to be a home game? The BBJ rake would be counted on the table in front of anyone who wanted to watch immediately after the last hand of the session, tallied, and added to next week's BBJ, with no percent going to the house.

As others have stated, these things can go on for a long time. I've read threads where a BBJ wasn't awarded for over a year, built up to big bucks, then the game broke up and the money sort of vanished. I would call that incident a raked game and therefore not a home game, but only in retrospect.

So there is a lot to consider. It isn't a cut and dried answer. But if it met all the criteria that would make me feel OK about it, I would call it a home game. It is potentially a home game.

But...doesn't this belong in another thread? I have a Taser in my sock for hijackers.

Any rake makes it difficult to win. $20 rake per pot makes it impossible.
The runners are making a killing but you underestimate how deep some of these games play and how horrible most of the payers are, especially in the PLO games.

No, I don't. I agree there are some juicy situations where your EV is so through the roof, that the house can rape you and you still emerge rich (assuming you don't run too bad). But it's hit and miss, inconsistent, high variance, high risk, playing illegally, and the gravy trains are transient and brief.

If there's anything I know how to do well, it's play PLO. So I agree with you completely. But you are perhaps doing a bit of underestimation of your own as to how powerful an impact that rake can be. Why should I put in $100/hour worth of work and get only $50? Screw these runners. I have a serious mind to start a home game and PLO will be part of the agenda and it will be rake free. I can't wait to get it up so big that game runners start offering me thousands of dollars to shut it down. :-) Because as you know, that happens in Texas, too.

$5 max rake is amazing. All the games around here are $10-20max with 2 being uncapped. The house won't make much money on 5max rake with only one table running. Probably $200 profit in the night after expenses. Also with 5max rake the house isn't making enough money to make it worth while because of legal issues. Casinos can only get away with such low rake because they run multiples of tables.

Security isn't really necessary. I personally don't like seeing security when I go to a house as it makes me feel uncomfortable. If the house is going to get robbed its going to get robbed. If you were security would you shoot and deal with all the legal issues and jeopardize the house?

Do seat belts also make you nervous? Just cut them off with a pair of heavy shears.

Don't shoot the bad guys unless they are robbing you, and you won't have any legal issues to worry about. In fact, after you commit the necessary homicides, you'll more likely be alive enough (!) to attend the grand jury interview where you will emerge with no bill.

Or you could just get robbed. And guess what happens sometimes during robberies?

Spoiler:

I'm going to give bonus chips to people who come play my home game who bring their gun (if they have a CHL). The more guns, the merrier.

If the game is sufficiently juicy (and maybe even if it isnt!) $5 per hand for a 5/10 game is less than you'll encounter at any casino, not to mention any other raked home game. If massage is included than this is a GREAT deal (assuming game is legit...no collusion, etc).
