Good Idea or bad Idea.. I was going to a craft store and purchase a t-shirt print iron on design to place on my table. Has anyone done this with good results?

Just wanted to give my two bits on the subject, since I've gone through this exact process a couple times with mixed results.

First and foremost, this does work on REALLY nice felt [Read : expensive.] OR REALLY bad [Read : REALLY cheap.] felt.

A few things to keep in mind. If you're playing on felt that is casino quality, you shouldn't have a problem. As true with most ironing, you need to make one medium-length pass with the iron to get the decal stuck to the felt, and then many quick passes to adhere it stronger. [This seems like a no-brainer, but don't iron the thing for 4 minutes by just leaving the iron on the decal. I've seen people do this.]

What's important is to try to find high-quality felt to do this on. If you go for the cheap 100% synthetic, or 80-90% synthetic you can actually melt the felt, even on low temperatures with very short passes of the iron.

One last tip; there are generally two types of iron-ons, those for white material, and those for black materials. Either one will work if you trim them very close to your image, and won't be an issue. However, for all colored felt, use white. Something about the black irons make the felt look unpleasant. [However, if you have black, quality felt, the black iron sheets look really good.]

Hope this helps.

Can we see it? Do you have a photo of the decal?

Hmm. I've played on tables with cheap lettering on them, and it's always a pain when the cards are on it. Prevents them from sliding, collects dirt, etc.

Does anyone else think of one thing--and one thing only--at the mention of "iron on shirt decal" ?

I like the idea. I'd just be worried about possibly screwing up the table if it doesn't go right.

Sure, I'll get some pictures up ASAP of the good, and the bad.

Another quick note, you can buy felt and try it out, but, don't iron on the decal, and THEN stretch the felt for use on an actual table, you'll crack the image and it will look bad. [I know from experience because I'm an idiot.]
