well I gave up on my search for sunglasses for poker. I was interested to try a set for the tournments I play. ( not home games but for casinos/underground). I have always used a hat, was going to try glasses as well but you need something good for low light conditions. The only glasses I found was some on the web but they are costly $140+. It's a bit much just for a try out.

Anyone else use them here? What kind did you try?

I really wonder what percentage of people wear sunglasses to a home game; I guess it would depend on the stakes?

None of the players in my home game wear sunglasses. However, my stakes are quite small being only a $100 buy in and it's a very casual environment. Could be totally different at other games.

A buddy loves them and I've ordered 3 pairs for him in the past.

At least one pair he sold to another player. Another pair had a broken part, but he wanted a new pair. When I ordered the new pair, I told them and they send a replacement part. He now has a backup pair.

Does work better with a baseball cap to block light from above.

Order dates:
2/14 Saw Shark
11/14 Lemon Shark
4/15 Lemon Shark

I have a couple of buddies who are on Team Blue Shark, and I know a number of others who have used them. They do well at hiding your eyes while not blocking light so that you have a hard time seeing action on the table.

So as a product, they do exactly what they're supposed to do. Whether you should use them or not is a whole different topic.

I know this isn't about sunglasses at home games, but I can't resist telling the story (again) about the one time someone wore sunglasses to our regular home game.

It was one of the founders of our game, strangely enough. For whatever reason, a few years ago he decided that he would try sunglasses. I guess he thought he was giving away tells and wanted the protection.

Whatever, we razzed him gently about it, but then after a break, half the table sat down with sunglasses on and had a bit of a laugh again about it. He took them off, we did too, and they've never appeared again.

I can see how they would be useful in poker. Besides hiding tells, you can keep an eye on your opponents without them knowing you are, and they may be unnerved by wondering if you are watching them.

It's just that, in a $40 buy-in game, it would feel silly sitting around the table in shades, trying to out-Hellmuth dudes you've played with for years.

That's a interesting story Eneely, thanks. I've played for almost 35 years and have never played with sun glasses but do use a hat at most games. I have come to the belief I should be using glasses at the more serious games ( higher buyins at casinos/underground clubs). Problem of course getting the right glasses that block your eyes but still allow you to see the cards ok in dim lighting.

Last time I played at the casino, the glasses started coming out after the first break. Maybe 2-3 players had them. I would like to have a set that I could try

Tell your buddies to work on the website. Just awful looking at and reading though.

They seem to run a lot of specials. Google search coupon codes, or sign up for their emails on the websites. Even free shipping helps.

My guess is that if you don't like them, they'll take them back, but I'd verify and not just take my word. In addition, someone else might take them off your hands for a discount off MSRP (breaking you even).

They just play poker. They don't work for the company. ;-)

i think sun glasses shows fear and weakness
i mean u r wearing them because u r afraid that i can get a soul read on you
and also i find a lot of the times players with sun glasses goes into a false sense of security and doesn't make any effort to mask tells that does not involve the eyes.

The only people who ever wore sunglasses at my games were wannabe poker pros, the kind who boast about how good they are but don't actually play regularly.

I've dumped the idea for buying glasses, mostly for the reason I can pull the hat a little lower to hide the eyes. If I do find a pair in my travels that seem to fit and work well, then I will but for now, no glasses.

I bring them to games, but only wear them when I have kings or aces. Is that a tell?

when you wear hoods and hats and sun glasses you dont hide tells you just make others feel uncomfortable around you so they tend to give you less easy action. that is my observation.

Wearing sun glasses or wearing ear phones plugged into your music sets you apart... more or less gives you the appearance of being aloof and not being interested in the others seated at the table.

And that image simply does not seem friendly.

If you're a loser, I can see your getting invited back to a home game even if you aren't perceived as being friendly.

But why would a home game host invite an unfriendly winner back?

I like getting invited back even though I'm a winner.

I'd like to read your reasoning on this, and how you'd respond to some of the anti-glasses posts here.
