Re: So If A Fight Broke Out...
13+ years at a weekly game. A few arguments, but never anything physical. Would like to hear some better stories than this, though. Good potential on this one.

Re: So If A Fight Broke Out...
I hosted in VA and two guys carpooled to our game. We played a $0.50-$1 cash game with 8 or 9 guys and started around 8pm. Around 10pm, we order pizza. At 10:15 one guy busts out and is needling his ride to cash out and leave.
The driver is up a full buy-in and isn't going anywhere - understandably so. The bust-out is a loud guy to start, but he's getting really pissed. He's critiquing his driver's play. Badgering him. Being a complete douche, when the driver suggests he take a cab home. The bustout freaks out and they're nose-to-nose (or nose to forehead) arguing. Did I mention they are brother-in-laws?
Obviously, the game halts as we all watch. It's between them, so I stay out of it at first.
"Why can't you just leave?"
"Why did you play so bad that busted out?"
"Why are you such a d1ck?"
"Rebuy!"
"F-you."
"I'm at least waiting around for pizza."
"F-this."
You know the usual post game needling, but this was obviously about something else - not just poker. A few minutes go by and a chest-bump occurs. The bustout says, "If you're feeling froggy, jump." I laugh. That didn't help. He says it a few more times with the intent to fight, but he won't throw the first punch. When I realize his brother-in-law might actually throw a punch, I separate them. I ask the bustout to go outside and have a cigarette. He harmlessly punched a glass partition of a door on the way out.
He cooled off a bit and had some pizza. They left shortly after pizza time. The bustout suspended himself for a few weeks, because he knew he was in the wrong.

Re: So If A Fight Broke Out...
Playing at another guy's home. Post-tourney cash game going, one strong but somewhat short guy is pretty soused.
Host goes to bed, lets us continue play (perhaps because I was there).
Something happens to trigger drunkfool (DF), which I can't remember details on (but it wasn't reasonable). He starts challenging tallguy (TG) to a fight, pushing him repeatedly and saying "let's go outside". TG, to his credit, doesn't rise to the bait.
We eventually get the dumb*** calmed down and he leaves. I give props to TG, because I would have gone after the fool after the first few times (DF was bigger than I am).
I reported DF to the host the next day, because I thought it showed ZERO respect to the host (what, he's gonna want to be woken up by cops at 2 a.m., if DF gets to go outside?). I'm pretty sure DF was banned.

Depends on what kind of fight it was, I guess.
I know that the participation of the morans would end, at that game, forever... at least the one who instigated things physically, that is. Other participants might get the banhammer if I didn't see their response as justified.

Re: So If A Fight Broke Out...
I play with a group of people who enjoy boxing each other for fun, and they get drunker than anybody I've ever seen.
Never once has there been a physical altercation.
Most of us mature past the "meet me behind the lockers at 3pm to get your ass kicked!" mentality. And most of us are aware enough to help cool down heated arguments before they get to the fisticuffs stage.
But no, the game would not end forever. We also all understand that poker is an emotional game.

Re: So If A Fight Broke Out...
We've had it come very close once before, a bunch of chest pounding, yelling and threats, but the other players got in between them before anything physical happened. A lot of boos and a lot of suckouts was the main instigating factor, but I've heard this wasn't their first time. Hopefully it won't ever happen again. And the game would go on if it did.
