hey guys, i posted here before about a table i was planning on buying for my home games. i found a guy a few towns over that makes a good looking table. i know the features i want etc, im just down to choosing the size of the table. i have been hosting with a table that honestly i just measured and has a length of 4 foot 8 inches and a width of 2 feet by 10 inches and weve been playing with 6-8 players super tight but manageable with rotating dealer though it may be hard to believe. so the guy i plan to purchase from offers a 6 and a half foot table as well as an 8 foot and a 9 foot. the table will be used in not a huge area so minimum size that isnt too small is ideal. we will be playing with 6- 9 players with a dedicated dealer, so if i could do it on a 4 by 8 with rotating dealer i think the 6 & a half is perfect size, perfect amount of room for each player. i guess im not so much asking a question but voicing this to see if anyone else has chose a table size and regretted it once it was all said and done. thanks for any feedback guys

If you have the space for a full size 4x8 then go for that. You can squeeze 9 plus a dealer around a 6.5' table if you had to, but it'll be tight. 10 people around an 8' table is much better.

Seriously it depends on what you can afford and how much space you have in your poker room/area. You will never regret getting a larger table if you can swing it. Lots of room for each player makes for comfortable guests. They will stay longer, have better attitudes, and come back more often. Go as big and as expensive as your personal situation allows. Good luck.

Sounds like it's a quality table, and that is priority #1 if you're spending the money.

Biggest to comfortably fit in the room is best. If you are short, you can always leave one end sorta open and play on 2/3 of the table. From experience, not being able to get out of the corner without guys getting up to let you past is important.

How large is the room?

When I was in a similar situation to you, I just bought a piece of 4x8 particle board, rounded of the corners, added some 2x4 stiffeners, and put on some cheap padding and felt. When I was at the hardware store I bought a pair of legs and set the table up. The whole thing cost about $50 and took about 3-4 hours to put together. After we used it about 5-6 times, we had a much better idea of what we wanted for size, configuration, etc. for the final table. That was 12 years ago and we still use that table today in multi-table tournaments so even the $50 didn't go to "waste".
