Short stacked Call station home game

Every Thursday we have a poker game and we decided to play 1/2 with 40 chips (20bb) most players are call stations and dont even raise with premiums. i was wondering what my starting hands should be in a 6 -8 player game. i know i should play TAG but should I c bet smaller? cbet gutshots IP? do i make my pre flop raises smaller? or bigger since im playing TAG? ... i like to 3 bet any decent hand IP usually.

Open shove any hand worth playing. You can't get the structure changed at all?

+1

If they are calling wide you can probably just wait for TT+, AQ+ and play that and win.

Re: Short stacked Call station home game

I agree. Get good hands, bet the hell out of them, hope they hold up. It's boring, you might play three hands all night, but there's not much other way. I used to play in a game like that. One person asked me how I could fold every hand for three hours.

Ay particular reason you're playing 1/2 with $40? Why not .25/.50?

Re: Short stacked Call station home game

we play 1/2 with 40 chips because they can't do math lol... so every chip is worth 1$ basically lol.. its just a 20$ buy in... i stack my chips in 10 BBs and they all stack theres in 10 chips lol... another thing is when we do play cash game we buy in for 40$ and play 1/2$ but i tell them the games probably going to be quick so lets lower the blinds so we have more BBs... there reply was... well will take out the red 5$ ones and switch them all for white 1$ one LMAO!! they think im crazy because they dont understand variance and dont listen to me cuz i have yet to win... should i just walk away or just play the tight TT+, AJs +? anything i could do in postion to give me an edge? maybe 3 bet with a hand like JTs?

Yeah, despite suggesting a different format five minutes ago, I do agree it's impossible to change someone else's game, so it was bad advice.

Just shut up and be happy and try to win. If they say something you think is ridiculous, agree with them. Don't argue, don't fight, don't deny. Not everybody thinks about poker the same way you do. This is a GOOD thing. If you think you're better, just shut up and take their money.

alright thanks a lot!... i just wanted to teach them that its a game a skill and strategy so that they maybe get hooked on it like i did once i read my first book. I live in the middle of nowhere so its hard to find solid poker buddies i can socialize with in person.

Re: Short stacked Call station home game

Yeah, I know the feeling.

You can't convert existing friends into poker friends. You can't infect someone with your level of interest or passion. One's relationship with poker is personal. That's why we're all here.

This is the game they are offering. Accept it for what it is, or don't play.

You'll find the higher up in stakes you go, the less people have an interest in educating their opponents. Being a good poker player involves learning how to adapt your knowledge to suit the game, not the other way around. The better you get, the less you want others to share your level of interest. Every man dies and plays poker alone.

If you want to play a specific structure and attract people who want to play that structure, your best bet is to host a game yourself. That way you don't have to convince anybody else about the WHY, you can just DO. Maybe the players get it, maybe they don't. Maybe they just know yours is a good and fun game, and they don't think anything more of it. That way you get what you want without needing to convince anybody of anything.

I am extremely disappointed at your failure to take the bait. This will be noted in your permanent record.
