Home game with regulars

A maniac raises UTG+1 , 4BB, , 4 players call, I am button with 77, and reraise to size of the pot, fold fold fold, and the guy( that a I know to well, starts trash talk, the usual, “ I’m gone fold but I certain that I would win”, everyone folds. Then the usual happens, “let’s see the flop, comes all with a 7… “see I was right, he says”, know I’m steaming and say, “ I bet you 10BB that you are wrong, he blams A trash of and screams flush, I put the 77 on the table, turn blank for me and the river deals a 3h, one of the spades was the 3…
I scream full house, give me the money, he pays, and after a while he starts moaning and whining, “if it was me, I would not ask the bet”, so I give it back to stop the moaning…
I don’t know, but for me it was a legit side-pot bet, and he should had pay, end of discussion. Maybe I am to weakling and should have kept the money. Maybe even it is a situation that doesn’t deserves this post…
What I want to know is if sort of thing happen in your home games (I would bet that, yes they do) and how you resolve them.

PS: excuse the gramatics, but like you already have notice, English is not my first language.

First of all, screw that guy - I hate people who run theirs mouths.

Secondly, he was WRONG. Not only did YOU have the better hand pre-flop (when the bets were made and everyone folded to you), but you also ended up winning the hand that he was *sure* about winning - who cares that he got ahead of you on the flop and you made yours on the river.

Third, and most importantly, (I assume he actually agreed to the side-bet) a grown man placed a bet and LOST. There is NO reason you shouldn't keep the money so long as you don't rub it in his face (which is something HE would probably do to you had the board not paired).

I can't stand people who whine about cards/money/luck, or people who *think* they know the outcome of every hand or what other people are holding. When someone (like you) finally calls them out and they look the fool, they inevitably start whining even more 'I wouldn't have taken YOUR money'.

The next time you play with him, make sure that ANY side-bet which involves him is prefaced with 'Don't let (villain) in on any side-bets, he will just whine later if he loses and guilt you into giving it back.' Make sure before he is allowed ANY side-bets, that you get yours back first.

Hate to rant, but I think it needed to be said. Can I get an 'amen'?!?

Why is the guy a maniac if he raises UTG+1 4BB? What are the blinds? In my $1/$2 NLHE game the "average" raise is $12 (6BB) and no one thinks the raiser is a maniac? And 4 players called him, so perhaps the raise was not all that maniacal to begin with.

If you would have paid had you lost, keep it.

We play micro limits very, very loose, 0.10/.20€, sometimes 0.50/1, others .20/0.50€, but it’s not unusual 3, 4 guys losing 50€ , I have won 250 € in two nights, and I’m from a country were the minimal wage is 500€. And we are not rich people, at least not all.

I like I said, we are regulars, very regulars, I have seen this guy do things that qualifies him to moronic, and I like him, once he raised 40BB in UTG with QQ, “I always lose with bitches”, before, he had a period of playing that automatic raised all in, with any pair in any position/board, etc., but my long time favorite was a pot of 350BB I won with A hi, just calling…

But it was the move that made me put the post, it was the side bet, and the way that was settled

When did you get all-in ?? Was it preflop, after the flop, did the 10 BB put someone all-in?

Or was the 10 BB after you were all in? Ahh hence the "side bet."

It's not clear he agreed to your 10 BB bet. Slamming down a flush may not necessarily be an agreement. Next time get the money (or even paper IOU) on the table first, then show cards.

As far as keeping or returning the extra money, it would depend on if you thought he agreed to the bet. If he did (as he should have and probably did) then you should keep it. If it wasn't clear he was willing to throw in another 10 BB, I can understand why you returned it.
