Question regarding button

Got a question. What happens if you go from 3 to 2 players in a hold em tournament and the guy who is in the button was just the small blind?

The easy thing to remember is:

Move the big blind forward, work backwards from there.

In your case, he'll be the big blind.

Re: Question regarding button

Roberts:
In heads-up play withtwo blinds, the small blind is on the button. When play becomes heads-up, theplayer who had the big blind the most recently is given the button, and hisopponent is given the big blind.
TDA
Button in Heads-up In heads-up play, the small blind is on the button and acts first pre-flop and last on all subsequent betting rounds. The last card is dealt to the button. When beginning heads-up play, the button may need to be adjusted to ensure no player takes the big blind twice in a row.

There are three possible scenarios from going from 3 to 2.

Former button is eliminated.
Previous SB is BB.
Previous BB is SB and has the button.

Former BB is eliminated.
Previous button is BB.
Previous SB is SB (again) and has the button.

+1 for making me laugh.

But Palimax has it - just move the BB forward, and the other guy is SB/BTN.

Re: Question regarding button

Our 'home rules' call for a moving blind (or dead button?).

We just make sure the BB moves. We don't have players be the same blind 2x in a row.

I'm sure Palimax is correct. But we don't do it that way.

BTN
SB
BB

If BTN out, then SB is new BB. BB is SB.
If SB out, then BTN is new BB. SB doesn't post SB (differs from norm)
If BB out, then BTN is new BB. SB doesn't post SB (differs from norm).

When heads up, BB doesn't deal.

It's evolved from the general feelings that if you are BB this hand (and still in the next), you should be SB. If you were UTG, then you should be BB next hand. If you were SB, you should NOT be SB again (but can be BB).

It works for us.

Re: Question regarding button

here's some pictures that help explain the movement if its of any help. You should get your group to go with the standard.

If the dealer is eliminated, the small blind becomes the big blind, and the big blind becomes the small blind and button. Rationale - Player3 just paid the big blind and should not be the big blind two hands in a row ... so Player2 must be the big blind. Since Player2 is the big blind ... Player3 must be the small blind and button.

If the small blind is eliminated, the dealer becomes the big blind, and the big blind becomes the small blind and button. Rationale - Player3 just paid the big blind and should not be the big blind two hands in a row ... so Player1 must be the big blind. Since Player 1 is the big blind ... Player3 must be the small blind and button.

If the big blind is eliminated
, the dealer becomes the big blind and the small blind is once again the small blind (and button). Rationale - Player3 just paid the big blind and Player1 would normally have been the next big blind ... so Player1 should be the big blind. Since Player1 is the big blind ... Player2 must be the small blind and button

Easiest way to do it is to pick up the button (like it's gone), get the blinds correct from the previous hand, whoever isn't the big blind is now the small blind with the button.

I agree with TOAFKA ^^

Because the person who was just BB cannot be BB twice in a row it's just easier to figure it out that way. In heads up there should be a SB and a BB every hand.

+10.1, since I occasionally screw this up myself (just goofed at our last tourney- moved the button rather than the blinds)
