Not a fan of slowing the action, or confusing those that may be new to our game. Sounds like this DB does both.

It's acceptable action, as he's been doing it and it's been accepted.

At our games, the joking it mostly accepted. Haven't seen the 'blocking' move, and pretty sure KITN would be the result. $40 would be fine.

Not trying to bump a dead thread - but have a funny/disturbing story about the same guy who tried to block the raise. Who will be referred to as DB for douchebag.

Background - I am waiting for a seat at this game. Game is usually run by a couple, but the husband is out of town, so I'm switching off with the dealer(wife) until I have a seat to give her some breaks. So I acted as the floor when this issue came up.

DB is crippled down to his last $10 and is in seat 7. He is in the BB and just puts the $10 out.

A few people call the $2, DB $10 is now a raise. One of the limpers raises to like $30 and gets 1 call. So the dealer separates the pots. The main pot is to her left (where it always is) and the side pot of $40 is on the right of the community. (right in front of DB).

The flop is dealt and one of the players bets, the other folds. The dealer runs out the board before awarding the side pot (she's not that good). They showdown, DB wins the main pot. Being the DB he is, he reaches out and GRABS THE SIDE POT and brings it in front of him. Dealer is pre-occupied with something and doesn't notice this.

I immediately speak up and say "Woah, XXX, that's the side pot, that isn't yours, put it back." he says "There's no difference, it's $40 and $40, bro. I get $40 either way." I (impolitely) respond with "No, the main pot is not $40, it's less. And even if it was, that is still the side pot, which belongs to Seat 1. Not to mention that you shouldn't touch a pot until the dealer pushes it towards you."

DB looked like he wanted to say something but opted not too. Was hoping he would since it would probably be another ignorant comment.

Yeah, not likely that DB had only 1 move in his tool-box. Good job speaking up.

We always put the main pot in front of or towards the side of the all-in player. So I could understand the initial reach for the wrong pot by this db but his explanation is weak at best. You really need to talk to the hosts and help them grow a brain. This guy needs to stop playing for a while to forever.

Re: Players "blocks" a raise; Raiser tries to add more. Ruling?

As a dealer, I was taught that the main pot goes on the left, then the board, then any side pots to the right. There are other acceptable arrangements, but not "this is your pot, I'll put it by you, and this is hers, so it goes over where she's sitting..."

At a casual home game, whatever, but I wouldn't ask this dealer to change AWAY from the casino practice. Good that we slap his hands for grabbing at the pot, and awesome that we get a chance to make him look bad for doing it, so he can't just say "stop being so uptight".

It should be whatever player A wants it to be right? Isn't this how poker works? Just crazy he would get mad when he was the one being a dumbass.
