New Member Intro, Custom Chip Pics

I'm abby99 on chiptalk.net and I love to host and attend home poker games. Last week I took delivery of my second set of custom chips and thought that I should stop lurking and post some pics.

I fell in love with ASM's Diamond Square (aka DSQ aka MD-50) mold and had to have a set of my own. My designs were heavily influenced by Nevada chips of the 1960s and 1970s and by the Art Deco Revival movement that began in the late 1960s.

The Lady Luck Club, Series II
Cali-colored cash set
Manufacturer: PCOL/ASM
Mold: DSQ Diamond-Square, MD-50
Designer: J5 Design

100 x 5-cent: Half pie, Purple, Light Green
200 x 25-cent: 414, Red with Bright White
300 x $1: 3T16, Light Blue with Retro Blue, Pink, DG Arc Yellow (600 more are on order.)
600 x $5: 3A12, Canary Yellow with Mandarin Red, Green, Blue
160 x $20: 6A14, Black with Retro Lavender, Light Green, DG Arc Yellow
40 x $100: Quarter pie, Bright White, Retro Blue, Retro Red

Here are some of the chips that influenced my design:

This is my first custom set, delivered in January 2010.

The Lady Luck Club, Series I
Vegas-colored cash set
Designer: J5 Design
Chips: Blue Chip Company
Mold: Medium Greek Key
Card Cappers: ABC Gifts and Awards
Dealer Buttons: BR Pro Poker

About half of this set lives in this custom engraved case from ASM, which is resting on my custom table:

Thanks, JZ. Saturday's all good. I have a few details to work out for Friday. Worst case is that I show up late Friday evening, barrels of chips in hand.

NI-HA-HA-ICE!

Welcome to the online forum which doesn't give you an eye sore

I so want my own set, will have to wait though until I actually have my own permanent place to host. Can't justify the investment at the moment for my occasional hostings at other peoples homes.

+1 to that - you have some gorgeous chips, and I'm glad that some of the folks over here finally get to see them.

I'm also pleasantly surprised to hear you're joining us for HPI. I'll see you there!

Welcome abby99! I have drooled over your sets many times. Those are some of the nicest customs out there IMHO. What stakes do you usually play? It looks like you could handle a wide range of games.

Thank you, palindrome! I'm pretty proud of both sets. My usual game is .25/.50 NLHE, but I can easily spread 1/2 with either set. After I receive my add-on order of $1 chips from ASM, I'll be able to spread 2/4 or 3/6 LO8, one of my favorite games ever. We played 2/4 FLO8 9-handed two weeks ago with the BCC set and could have used more $1's. Unfortunately, I can't add on to that set.

I failed to mention this earlier, but I really love this hundo. I'm normally a "$100 should be black" traditionalist, but I just might steal this idea for a high-value chip in my next cash or tourney set.

The brightly-colored quarter pie, especially if it's an oversized (44mm) chip, really says, "It's ON." when it goes into a pot.

Thanks! However, the traditional Cali color for the hundo is white.

There was some discussion about the relatively simple spot pattern of this chip (quarter pies were often used for low-denom casino chips) and whether it would be more fitting to use eight alternating 1/4" spots or even one of ASM's infamous level-5 spots for the hundo, but I decided that importance is not necessarily the same as complexity. This chip really does sand out in a pot, and IMHO it is definitely worthy of being the top denomination.

I guess I should have said "Vegas colors" instead of "traditional," though IMO nothing is traditional about Cali poker chips.

That said, when I do my first custom cash set, I'm pretty sure I'll have $20s instead of $25s.

I think you chose well. I like the visual pop that color/spot combo give a pot, and your picture just reinforces that opinion.

The chips were made by ASM (Atlantic Standard Molding) and can be purchased through their website, www.pokerchipsonline.com/. There is a price list on that site -- the prices vary according to the complexity of the inserts. Some of my selections are available only to members of chiptalk.net, so if you're interested in a set of custom ASM chips, check out that site as well.

California had poker before Vegas existed.

Very nice set, and welcome!

I had to zoom in on my phone to see that they were *dancing*.
