My super bowl weekend, starting last week.. 2 new ones

It's been a pretty crazy week. Had a big time customer who called on a last minute request to make a table and had another new customer want a table for super bowl Sunday. Almost an impossible task but I got it done. Delivered table number one at 1am last night, and then got back to work 6 hours later to finish and deliver this one. Don't have pix of the first table up yet, will post another thread when I do, cause that one came out awesome. Below we have:

92x44 table with dining top to follow
All black stain and finish
Custom cloth in black (blue speed cloth on temporarily)
Black aluminum cupholders
Raised rail with black trim
Dual pedestals

Basically the idea was to just murder it out, black everything out. Once the cloth comes in I'll post updated photos. He went with LA sports teams, it'll look pretty sweet.

Enjoy. I do have some construction threads of the raised portion if anyone is interested. Ok, since I have slept about 7 hours in the last 3 days it's bed time. Word.

I like the look that the large amount of handrail material offers.(a lot of depth)

Not my favorite color scheme but the craftmanship looks A+ as usual.

Why do people like playing with a raised rail? What's the benefit? Can anyone whose played on one explain?

I haven't played at one. It is kind of cool looking but I always thought it may make it harder to keep your cards hidden when looking at them or cause more guys to bend the cards than already do.

You don't like black? You realize the blue cloth is temporary?

Sweet, sweet work as always Slidey! Will you get pics with the custom cloth in there eventually?

I have played on one (made for a customer) and it was actually pretty comfortable, everything sits a little lower so it's almost a little more ergonomically "correct" as far as looking at and handling cards and chips. The raiser is only 1.5" so it's not a HUGE difference. And yeah, the custom cloth will be all black, and I'll definitely post photos when it's on.

This sucker is going to disappear in a dimly lit room. Just cards and chips floating in space.

Add fluorescent chips and some blacklights, and this could be a pretty cool effect.

Re: My super bowl weekend, starting last week.. 2 new ones

Ok, here is the rail detail... I use spacers in between the lip piece and the 1/2" rail top piece to make it the correct height. The technique was learned from another forum member on a building forum, so I cannot take credit for the ideas, only the materials.

After these are in I upholster the rail as normal, and then work on the edging.

I use the PVC edging and since my local place was out of black melamine in the right height, I used pine edging, glued it to each strip and then stained it black.

I cut a thin piece of aluminum cornering in half and used each of them as support anchors. Superglued the edging on to them and then worked my way around the rest of the table using plastic corner guard ripped into small pieces..

To cover the gaps I used 1/8 maple cut to the right size and stained to match

And that's a wrap folks...
