Re: June 2012 Open Thread

Finally dug out the camera and posted a whole new batch of pictures. Yeah for having just a bit of time to do something fun.

Re: June 2012 Open Thread

We just got back from our honeymoon. The weather didn't go our way but it ended up being a bit of an adventure. The area we were staying in received a record amount of rain and resulted in massive flooding.

My wife in front of a raging Temperance River.

A car that fell in a sinkhole a few blocks from our hotel in Duluth.

Congrats! I hope you had fun in spite of the weather. Of course, you have to try really hard to not have fun on your honeymoon.

In my best Crocodile Dundee voice: 'at's not a sinkhole. This is a sinkhole:

Because of the high water table down here, sinkholes are fairly common in Florida. This one was a doozy that happened almost 30 years ago in Winter Park, just a few minutes away from my home. My wife remembers it but I was still living further north back then.

Today it's a lake.

Questionable choice to honeymoon in Duluth, but with a new bride who can stand in the rain in front of a raging flood on her honeymoon and still smile, massive win. Congratulations!

Need the HP Rungoot for tonight's game. I am hoping we can have a full table tonight, but with the weather being so nice numbers are down.

Re: June 2012 Open Thread

The HP RUNGOOT made into port right on time last night and quickly left once the 2nd tourney started. The first tourney went smoothly as I had quads twice. I had Q2os in the BB and I checked my option. The flop was 222 and I knocked out a player who had pocket 8's. Not sure why he did not raise it pf, but I will gladly take. I ended up taking second in the tourney when the blinds go to high and it turned into a shove fest my A4 lost to KQ.

The second game did not go so well for me I went out on the 5th hand when we went set over set. Those are never fun, but it happens. We only had 7 players so it was light crowd for the night.

Thanks guys! She's a total trooper. We had a great time despite all the crazy weather. We were fortunate enough to be able to meet up with friends and have a few drinks at the bar.

Re: June 2012 Open Thread

Looks like a full table plus for tonight's cash game. I'm super-stoked, since I haven't had a game in over three weeks. Ship the RUNGOOT, I'll need it against all the luckboxes coming tonight!

Played last night. Very strange game IMO. We play with the 2-7 bounty on all the time. I had to pay it out 8 times and it was only dealt out 9 times in the evening. The first 6 came in the first 2.5 hours. Most were legit wins with 2 pair, flush and full houses being made. Pretty sick.

I had a couple of big hands. The most important was when I held 8Tdd with around $110 behind and raised PF to $2 and got 5 callers. Board came out 7s 6h 4d. Giving me 2 straight draws. I fires out $10 and got 4 folds. The BB cr to $20 sitting on a $130 stack. I called and the turn bricked out. BB led out for $25. I though for sure he was on a draw and considered raising all in. Eventually I wussed out and folded. Turns out he had T8ss and would've snapped called and been free rolling my ass for a 1100bb pot. Phew...

I was pretty card dead most of the evening and when I picked up AA and raised UTG+1 I got the blind. First time in like a year a raise took the blinds in my game. I didn't make trips, set, flush or full house at all. I did make one straight that got paid off and was the only reason I ended up a little bit. Other than that a 2+2er (drawing a blank on his sn) couldn't miss and cleaned up with a 1000bb win.

TR: NLHE cash game

Had 11 players show up for this random Saturday night game. We never had more than 8 at the table at once, and the majority of the game was 6-7 handed. Only two non-regs showed up, but several regulars who havn't been able to make it the last few Thursdays came to scratch the itch.

The game started off well, and I picked up a few small pots to build my stack from 160 to ~300bb. That profit went bye-bye when my QQ got cracked by TT, all-in preflop versus a maniac. After topping off, I pushed to hard with the nut flush and chased out a smaller flush that would have paid off a better sized value bet. Feeling a bit tilty, I took a quick break, stepped outside, and took my time smoking a full cigarette (one thing I hate about my game is that it is literally 10 feet away from the table to go outside and smoke, and I can easily put down half a cig between hands. I generally smoke a pack a day; on poker nights I put down almost a full pack in 6 hours, so my lungs are always cashed out the next day. /derail).

After taking a few minutes off, I returned determined to play my best. After another 2 hours, I found my stack back up to almost 400bb when the hand of the night came up. My KT stacked the nut flush on a Th2hTxKh board, and pushed my stack over the 800bb mark. Once I had a big stack, I loosened up considerably and splashed around with the whale, the maniac, and the other LAG-tards at the table.

My last big hand was AA vs 84 all-in on a 764 flop. All of his outs bricked, and I took the maniacs last 120bb.

Ended the night with just over 800bb profit, plus $10 that one of the non-regs tipped me for dealing for him all night

Re: June 2012 Open Thread

Ran ice-cold at Daytona last night.

Had KK three times, won a couple of small pots and lost a large one. I open my KK from MP in a straddled pot, guy who had been playing very TAG 3-bets and gets one caller. I 4-bet, he shrugs his shoulders and shoves (nice speech), and I am certain he has aces. I'm considering my second-ever preflop fold of KK when villain 2 calls - dammit. Now I'm getting better than 5:1 on a call, so I have to do it. She turns over JJ (wtf?), board runs low and the aces hold.

The rest of the night I was just killed by catching a lot of second-best hands on the river: rivered my double-gutter on a paired board when villain runner-runnered his boat, rivered 2P vs a bigger 2P, etc. I also called down a very aggressive LAG with TPWK when my read told me he was FOS, and I was right - until his 72s runner-runnered a well-hidden flush and he got me to pay a pot-sized river bet.

It was pretty brutal; down 300bb in under 4 hours. I had one more BI, but I was tired and knew I wasn't playing my best - I had made some bet sizing mistakes and value-owned myself in a couple of spots. So I called it a night and went home early.

Yeah, it's nice

I started my BR with a $50 deposit on Pokerstars several years ago. When I pulled it off after Black Friday, I had $2k, a new(er) PC, a vacation, and several other small life-money withdrawals (+$500 on the Merge network). A month after BF, I was down to $800 (larger life-money withdrawals, and a few ****ty B&M sessions). A year and a half later, I've built a new poker table, bought a decent chipset, took another vacation, bought a $800 dog, and, with this week's win, pushed my BR back over the $2k mark. All thanks to guys who will stack off with ****ty hands! A shout out to all the whales and maniacs at all the home games: thank you for your support. I hope you never realize how much money you actually lose!!!
