Did you ever get your weekly game back to running dug? We might have to start planning another border battle. Games have been fairly sparse up here this summer.

This trip could be interesting. Am I allowed to TR Vegas? Isn't there a saying or a tagline that says I can't?
Good luck, and Vegas TRs are strongly encouraged. I might even have to break out an infraction if you don't give us one...

As a matter of fact, I've got 8 for tonight's NLHE game, the first Thursday game in like 2 months. I'm already downstairs puttering around the poker room

Ship the HP RUNGOOT!!!

And, yeah, maybe around the end of August or beginning of September. I'd love to have some of you boys down for an all-day game. I'll start sniffing around and find a good Saturday for it.

Re: July 2012 Open Thread

TR:

Had 10 show for the game, including 2 new players, both of whom had ~1 hour drives to get here! One guy was a straight-up drunken gambler, who would routinely open raise to 20bb, and Cbet 100bb, regardless of pot size or his actual cards!!! He was nice enough to reload twice before he busted and left. The other was a very funny, pretty knowledgable player who I think will be a good addtion to our group. Both planned on returning as their schedules allow.

The RUNGOOT seemed to be in town for me, as I had numerous quality starting hands, JJx2, QQx3, KKx3, and AAx2. Unfortunately, almost all these big pocket pairs were losers. For example, I got it in versus the whale on a 5s3c2c board with AsAc only to run into a set/eventual quads for 200bb. The whale couldn't miss last night, finishing with a 1600bb stack, with almost 800bb of profit!

I, on the other hand, was down to my last of 3 buy ins around midnight, a victim of my own poor play and the merciless river cards. I was sure the RUNGOOT had abandoned me until the Hand Of The Night came up.

I opened to 4bb UTG with J9ss, and the entire 6-handed table came along. The flop was a beautiful AQ3sss, floping me the second nuts. Whale in BB leads out for 1/3 pot, Rockfish calls, I pop it pretty good to about a pot sized bet. Folds around to whale, who slowly pushes out a large stack of whites with a couple redbirds on top for the 3bet. Rockfish tanks, and shoves for roughly double the 3bet. I shove (obv), whale calls, and the race is on. Or so I thought. When the whale tabled 85ss, and Rockfish showed Ks3h, I only had to fade the remaining 5 spades to win. A king on the turn gave me a bit more to sweat, but a harmless 5 on the river let me rake the almost 800bb pot, the biggest of the night.

For good measure, I picked up KK the last rotation, and lost a good 150bb when the whale rivered his flush

Overall, a meager +150bb night, but just being able to play after almost 2 months off felt great.

LOL @ "meager"

Glad to see you playing again, and nice end-of-session score to get in the black.

Re: July 2012 Open Thread

I got an invitation to a new (for me) NLHE cash game and attended last night. The game is full of fishy jerks, and the host is a complete douchebag, so of course I cleaned up.

Spoiler:

We were six-handed: two very tight players surrounding me, a loose-but-thinking player (casino 2/5NL reg running hot lately), the "one in every crowd" maniac (opens nearly every hand preflop, never folds to a 3-bet, and is extremely sticky postflop) who was fortunately on my right, and the host - generally a solid TAG, 2p2 lurker, thinks and adapts to table conditions.

This group has been playing together for a while, and you could see it in the dynamic. The two looser players were at each other's throats all night - trying to put either of these guys on a range preflop was an exercise in futility. The other players were mostly folding and waiting for the right opportunity to jump into the fray.

I started off very snug while getting a feel for the table, and I ran cold early in the session. That didn't help my action much when I did get an occasional hand; I picked up AA and 3-bet the very tight player to my right - he hemmed and hawed for a few seconds then folded QQ.

By this point I had a pretty decent read on the table and started to open up a bit. I was starting to push back against the maniac but wasn't connecting much; we traded a few small pots but no sparks until we got it AIPF. Somehow my 5-bet shove for more than the pot convinced him that I was FOS, and he called my AA with AQs - ran it twice and held both times for the double-up.

I ran fairly well and ended the session +140bb on my 80bb buy-in. It was a fun, challenging group - very different from the "bet when I have TP+ and make an occasional nonsensical bluff" that I'm used to from many of my regs. I had to stay focused on my game all night and catch some cards, both of which I was able to do. I'm looking forward to playing with these guys again.

Re: July 2012 Open Thread

I really enjoy reading the TRs in this thread. My last few years have been dedicated to education and I've been way out of poker. Lurking on 2p2, specifically in HP has helped me feel somewhat connected while I needed to mostly focus on other things. Thank you all for allowing me to live vicariously through your poker exploits.

The HPI was only the third time I'd played live poker since moving to IL (4 years ago) and the first time I'd played up here (the other two were at the dog track back home). With more time on my hands, I'm looking forward to getting back into the game and am glad to have found a great group of fellow players here in HP.

I sincerely hope to be able to contribute some (hopefully positive) TRs myself in the near future.

Day 1
Flight was delayed a bit, got to Vegas an hour after scheduled. I couldn't check in to the hotel, do I hit Caesars $110. That ended before the second break.

Off to the $1-3 game. I sat with $150 planning to pace myself. Lost $60 fast added $90. Then, went on a little heater. Small suited connectors hit, largely due to getting numerous free cards which lead my opponents to Value-town. Ran it up to $840, but cashed out for $770.

Up $420.

Went back to the hotel and played video Keno until the others arrived while winning $70.

Up $490.

Settled in with the boys and hit up a little Craps and 3-Card poker. Lost $25, but enjoyed it.

Up $465.

Walked around with open containers and loved it. Hit Harrahs for some $1-2. Bought in for $200, dipped a bit, won a few pots with. 33 and A7. Got bluffed a couple of times, and was sitting on $110 when I added another $100. Picked up AA. It was raised to $7, I reraised to $27, sir donkey ships for $117 with JJ and hits a 1-card flush to crippling me. Busted shortly after and dropped $50 in video poker and Keno before heading to bed.

Up $97 after buying beers.

How is beer considered a loss? It is money well spent...depending on the beer.

Well fellas, the games around town have all but dried up. There's only one home game I know of, and its a single .25 blind with a kill O8 game. But they deal anywhere from 5 to 8 hole cards to push action. I'm even in that game over 3 (lolsamplesize) sessions.

So I ran into some extra monies. I planned to go to tunica (I live In Memphis) for a daily tourney (posted a hand about it a couple of weeks ago). Any who, that hand was the bust out of that tourney. So of my found money, I had 300 left. Sat down with the whole shebang at the 1/3 300 Max buy in table. Folks, I was slapped In the dick with the hpguygoestocasinorandomlyrungoot. I cashed out with ~1500, with 1180 being my profit less buy In and tourney cost.

I can't remember alot of hands. But overlimping and calling a standard of raise has been good to me lately. I limp in ep with the old 97off. Guy raises to ~12 and gets 5 callers with me being one of them. Flop is 679 with 2 spades. I lead out. Raiser is my huckleberry. Turn is a Qc. I lead out again. He smooth Calls. River brings the 3 spades and I ship it. For 320ish which is a pot size bet at this point. He tanks for a good 3 mins. And calls. Don't know what he had but he said he thought that 3s what the perfect bluff card for me to barrel. I'm assuming he called the flop with something like AQ called the flop with 2 overs and hit tp on turn and tried to bluff catch with it. That was the biggest pot of my career. ~1200 pot.

So I go back down the a few days later and dust off 500. GG.

New bankroll:after losing 500 and buying some toys for me is 600. Lol br management.

Went back last night and had a really food session. Ran my 300 buy in to a bit over 600. Over limp once again with 56off in ep. (Gah. This sounds awful now that I'm writing it out. These plays aren't the greatest. But I'm confident in my post flop play. That's what I'm doing here is calling alot of hands and playing these folks post flop. ) anyway I limp and over call with the 56o. 5 ways to the flop. Flop is 478 two hearts. I lead into the pot for 40 (little less than psb) trying to rep over pair of QQ-AA and get istaraised to 100 by the next to act and it folds to me. I think for 10 secs and ship about 540 and he snap calls. I mean SNAP calls. He has 88, board runs out and hold for my secobd biggest lifetime pot. Br now 1400.
