Complete noob here, just wanting to say thank you dug. I really enjoyed the reviews.

I hold a weekly cash NLHE game with extremely low stakes (.05/.10 with $5-$10 buy ins), with 6-9 participants. So I use .05, .25, and 1.00 denominations, here's my question to anyone:

Do specific chips (such as Venerati's) become discontinued regularly? If I buy a 350 piece set now (for my low stakes), is there a good chance that, say, in a couple years when I decide to up my stakes, the same set of chips wont be produced anymore? Not that it's a HUGE deal or anything. Just curious.

In a word yes, chip lines do get discontinued. That being said, the "economy" lines will likely run for years to come and should any one line get discontinued anyone following this forum will likely get a heads up far enough in advance since there are enough chip fans on this forum who follow these kinds of things.

You're quite welcome, sir. And welcome to 2p2!

As lanyi said, chip lines do get discontinued. But whadayagonnado? Excuse to buy more chips, I guess...

Glad to see that this thread has taken on a life of it's own. Thank's to the guys who did the Miliano review. If other mid-range chips become available, keep posting reviews here.

Hey thanks you guys, I really appreciate it. One more quick question and then I'll get back to lurking around:

I noticed on buypokerchips.com that all their chips are marked down "on sale." I was planning on waitin until my birthday in july, but not if this "sale" will end any time soon. I figured I'd email them, but if any of you guys know if this is just their regular price, that'd be much quicker. Thanks again.

Those are the regular prices, they always say that at Sidepot. Of course, if you can convince the Mrs. that the sale ends Tuesday...

We played with the Venerati chips for the 3rd time this past weekend, and I would heartily endorse them. Even my wife enjoys playing with them and can see the difference from the super diamonds - they're not just score keepers! They stack nicely, sound good, shuffle and handle well even on the neoprene topper. Definitely worth it!

Holy crap, this actually worked! Even though she plays, I was still surprised to hear her say, "go for it!" So I'll be ordering soon! I'm leaning toward the cigar and snifters, because I like em the most visually. Just emailed buypokerchips.com to see when they'll get 5 cent chips in stock. Sooooo stoked.

Just going to be one more person to endorse the veneratis. Had them for about 2 months now after redoing my basement into a poker area, and they're absolutely great. Every single time we have a new player come they comment on how nice the chips are. FWIW, I stacked them to see how high I can get them, and I got 350 to stack on a racetrack table before it finally toppled. Sidepot Gaming Company was a pleasure to deal with. The customer service and speed of service in general was literally impossible to beat.

In short, buy the damn chips.

I ordered samples of Milanos and Desert Heat, looking for a set to re-label. Just got done with samples and the colors on the DH were MUCH brighter. I really liked the feel of the Milanos vs. the plastic feel of the DH, but the dull colors were a deal breaker for me.

DeeVee put some oil on the Milanos and watch the colors Pop if you still have the sample

You really realize how valuable this thread (And good chips) are when you play with cheap/dirty/old chips. I played in a Bar game last night where the colors were so indistinguishable and blended together, that I had a headache by the end of the night caused by separating pots (self-brag) pushed my way.
And this is coming from a guy that has been hosting for years with customized dice chips! But at least colors are clearly identifiable.

You can get blanks of equaly quality to the Milanos with a recessed center which is suitable for custom labels and it would save the trouble of peeling the old ones off.

You have the Progens you can buy (Discount Casino Gear sells them) and you also have 8V's available from Palm Gaming Imports which also do high quality labeling (will save you the time of sticking all of them on).

Congrats.

5c and $1 but no 25c? Seems like a steep jump between denoms.

I'm thinking of getting the Big Game chips from PS, from the VIP store.
The Big Game Chipset
I bought the chipset from FullTilt store and was very disappointed. Didn't feel like real casino chips. I thought these should. Especially if they're the same as on TV.

Anyone bought them?

You ought to read this thread and the ones linked on the FAQ. These are 13.5 gram chips, with metal slugs inside and guaranteed to feel like cheap plastic.

By the way, they are not the same chips as the ones on TV. And the listing doesn't claim they are.
