Re: Was I in the Wrong Here?

Fold if you don't have the JT for the straight flush redraw in case he does have quads.

The above advice is about as ridiculous as you having to "think" for however long you took. If he has quads, so be it, but don't nitroll him. The pot has $35 in it, you have to call $7 more. If you're that worried about quads in a spot like this, quit poker.

He was a douche for his reaction and you were just as big of a douche to sit there and contemplate the call.

If he feels it's a slowroll, then it may as well have been when we're talking about the tone at the table. This has nothing to do with hand rankings. It's not similar.

In your time being married, have you ever heard, "Would you rather be happy or right?" Same thing.

This is someone dealing with the double whammy of losing a big pot and feeling slowrolled and humiliated. I don't choose this moment to put him on the spot and embarrass him further.

As a host, I want people to feel welcome and comfortable at my tables. I want people to leave feeling good. A little bit of empathy goes a long way.

I also consider the casual player. If he sees people mocked and taunted, it might tip the scales the next time he's weighing attending. Nobody likes to be made a fool, especially not three times in quick succession.

Maybe it's the west coast in me. *shrug*

An omaha player who thinks that is a slowroll is someone you should definitely continue playing with.

I'm kinda in this camp as well, OP. Why are you raising here, if you're contemplating a $7 re-fold?

Re: Was I in the Wrong Here?

TBH, the part that would bother me (besides from the nit-rolling nature of the delayed call), is the fact that you announced "I have pocket queens", and did it BEFORE actually making the call. This could be interpreted in any number of ways, especially by someone who just got "coolered" holding the 3rd nuts. For example, he could feel you are indirectly bragging by drawing attention to your call and puffing yourself up as a player (since only a "good" player would even consider folding QQ in that spot).

Not that he would be right, but and emotional person could easily make that interpretation.

IMHO its always best just to make the call and turn your hand over. No verbal response is necessary.
