Another hint: After the deck has been shuffled, we place it to our left with the cut card on top as a signal that the deck is ready to be cut. The absence of a cut card on top usually means that the person has not yet completed the shuffle.
We only use one cut card, because we feel it makes it less likely to get shuffled into a deck. The dealer pulls the CC off the bottom of the dealt deck, cuts the new deck over onto it, and then shuffles his deck.
Because of this, I think it is better for us to keep the next, shuffled deck to the right of the cutoff player. This gives the current dealer more room to operate, and reduces the chance he might pick up the wrong deck to complete the current hand. That has happened, but not in a long time.
