Home Poker forum Pokerstars league -- season 5

The Home Poker forum has a loosely-organized regular "home game" on Pokerstars, open to anyone interested. 6:30pm Pacific time, Monday nights. 100% pure play-chip meaningless fun and a chance to play a few hands of poker with each other. Also an opportunity to learn a few new games if you're stuck in the nlhe rut.

Eneely is the owner of the league, so if you would like to participate, simply PM him and he'll send you an invitation. Please include your Pokerstars screen name, and cc me if you don't mind.

Here's a link to season 4's thread.

12 Mondays available between now and the end of June. Multitabling seems to go well, so I suggest running 2 or 3 parallel tournaments for each of the nights. That will give us a lot more data to work with, and more fun per unit time.

2 no-limit holdem tournaments are set up for tomorrow night, 6:30pm US west coast, 9:30pm east coast. t5k starting stacks, 5 minute rounds, action.

Schedule (subject to change):

Re: Home Poker forum Pokerstars league -- season 5

As for scoring, pokerstars awards points and gives a ranking in the club lobby. Improvements and alternates to their point system have been proposed, but I don't have much appetite for maintaining an alternate scoresheet. If you think you have a better system, feel free to maintain your own and publish standings. PM me and I can send you a spreadsheet with all the player names and 2+2 equivalents.

No bragging, strutting, or trash-talking allowed. This is a friendly game.

I would like to see some strategy discussion, so I encourage anyone to post some hands after the games. I think we all could especially learn something about the non-holdem games.

These seem to be contradictory statements.

I'm in favor of multiple games per night, if that's a question.

Aw, no more roaming the South Pacific?

Doesn't matter, I'm playing regardless. I like two a night. I won't be able to play the last half of the league, so I better win all the games in the first half!

Argh! Just missed it by a few minutes.

I was hoping to play tonight and would've preregistered, but P* (and 2p2) is blocked by my employer's draconian web filter. I can skirt it, but my employer frowns on that kind of thing.

Those were some good games. Disappointed by my play, but it was fun for sure. Watchin northzax grind back to the top was cool.

I wouldn't call it "grind"ing, so much as "bust-the-aces suckout special". Like I told Marietta, you don't want to run good early on, it's best to do it at the end.

(what's up with 2+2's hand converter, anyway? I can't get any converter to work on these hands, damnit.)

Game A:
#1: Akhanar
#2: Pocket_Keith
#3: [mystery contestant E]
bubble: The Palimax

Game B:
#1: gedanken
#2: Didace
#3: dade
bubble: pfapfap

2 tables seemed about right to me. That left time for a little chat. Don't want to turn this into a chore, but willing to try 3 if y'all want to.

12 people signed up, and they're all ranked at least 5th in the standings. What a bunch of winners!

True. I thought you were just about felted a couple times three handed, which is where the "grind" came up. Certainly an entertaining game.

You made a huge run towards the end yourself coming from last to second, then couple of bad hands.....

Yeah, my run good came in the middle of both tournaments, including that miracle chip up after my failed shove bluff on the river. Although the Aces over Queens over Eights double bust out was a little bit of justice from my aces earlier having gotten zero action.

As for multiple tables, I don't really like it. I can do it, but it takes more concentration than I'm looking for out of a fun league.
