Holdem Variant: Exposed Burn NLH Holdem Variant: Exposed Burn NLH

I was thinking the other day that I always find it interesting when a card is exposed during the deal preflop and it becomes the burn card. I thought: what if every deal was like this? This idea leads to a new hold'em variant: Exposed Burn Hold'em.

Basically the game plays the same as regular NLHE but the dealer flips over the first burn card after dealing the last card to the button. I think this would create some interesting dynamics. Clearly people would be way less likely to play small pocket pairs if one of their cards is the burn, but what about QQ or JJ with a Q or J is the burn? What about 76hh if the 8h or 4h is exposed?

Anyone ever play this game?

Yes I have , but Not on purpose LOL. I am going to try a variant of that tonite with my Friday Crew. All three burns exposed after the flop, turn, and river. I am going to call it NLH Watch em Burn.

I was gonna call that Insane Exposed Burn (Crazy Exposed Burn would be to expose the flop and turn). But I might like your name better. Let me know what the crew thinks!

Actually I meant to say expose the burn before the flop, turn , and river! I will get back with you on this thread.

I imagine that could lead to some fun situations ahah. Imagine someone cbetting an A high dry flop and then exposed burned cards were AAx ahah, would love to see how people played it off. Might try it this week if the crew is willing

Yeah definitely has some fun dynamics! If you bet the river you HAVE to have that last Ace right since you'd be crazy to bluff. Or would you?

I'm afraid it would confuse some of our guys... perhaps to the point of chasing them away. I do like courchevel, and even that confuses some.

I do like the idea, but don't think the meta game aspect plays into it that much. Perhaps your crew(s) are more prone to outplay one another. My gang (if not confused) wouldn't change much.

Our crew tried it as part of the game rotation last night. It went smoothly with just the usual contrarians having any minor complaints. Mostly it was just like NLH with a little helpful information from hand to hand. It is not a major factor (exposed burn cards) to change play most of the time. We will keep it for a while since we are a long term group that likes some variety in our game without going too far away from familiar territory.

Yeah, it's a pretty subtle change to the game (your version is a little less subtle). I think it could add a lot of nuances that would benefit the skilled players who know how to appropriately adjust.

Any interesting hands?

Nothing much other than normal NLH situations. Folks just tried to see if there was any major way to exploit the extra information. Most of the time it was just a little extra information that came in usefull. Guess there might be a hand once in a while where it matters more.

OK we have added this variant we call "Watch em Burn" to our game rotation. All burn cards exposed. It does not change NLH all that much usually. It does add another touch of variety to those players a little bored by staight NLH but does not turn off the NLH adherents. So it works OK for us as a home game variant.
