Hold'em table dining top?

Hey guys,

I have some wordworking experience, but not furniture, and I'm wondering if there are any plans out there for the dining tops I see for the hold'em tables some of the custom builders make. The top surface looks easy enough, but the rounded lip harder.

Speaking of custom table tops, where's Slidey been? He's the man you want to talk to, OP.

This is one of those cases where I now simply defer to someone who can CNC cut your wood for you - as I imagine there's a guy in Chicago who has a full sheet CNC wood cutter who'll do it for $50/hour, and it's a 1-hour job.

...and by imagine, I mean, there absolutely is:

There are a number of discussions/instructions/plans/pix etc about poker table/dining room table tops (aka 'flippers') over at scottkeen.com.
I have seen techniques where the lip is 'built up' from multiple pieces of wood, as well as ideas where the wood is 'bent' around to form the curve.

Pretty much anything you can imagine as far as poker tables has been discussed there.

Re: Hold'em table dining top?

All a "dining top" is is a poker table without legs. Its pretty simple (in concepts. Execution takes experience just like anything else).

1. Buy 2 4x8' sheets of 3/4" thinckness plywood. Measure and cut them into ovals (using a jigsaw) such that the kitchen table underneath is completely covered.

2. Take one of the sheets and cut a 4-6" oval "ring" out. This is your rail. The other (still intact) sheet of plywood is your "base" and playing surface.

3. Cover the "base" with 1/4 inch 2 E-O volara foam and the felt of your choice (go to www.yourautotrim.com)

4. Cover the rail with 1", 60 lb HD foam, and cover that with your chosen rail material (i like the padded suede. Vinyl is fine). Make sure that the foam wraps ALL THE WAY AROUND the sides of the rail. (Since they are 3/4" thick, a 4" wide raid should have 5.5" of foam on top of it...4+3/4+3/4=5.5). BUY LOTS OF STAPLES!

5. Attach the rail to the base. VOILA! You have a poker table! Just make sure to use a blanket to protect your kitchen table from scratches!

Re: Hold'em table dining top?

^^^ Wow, now we know how to build a poker table; that information has never been shared on the forum. Quality post, even if it has nothing to do with OP's question

I think you misunderstood what OP was asking for. I believe he's talking about a cover for a poker table that protects the playing surface and allows it to be used as a dining table.

Something like this:

Dining top is a pretty standard term in the industry, and means that a poker table has a second surface that can be used as a dining room table.

Yep. Sorry if I was unclear, I thought I was using universal terms.

Re: Hold'em table dining top?

What's up guys, havent been on in a while... I dont think there are any "plans" per se like there are for tables, but there have been a few posts here and also over at SK on how to do them. I'm pretty sure I put in a couple of photos and how to steps in one of my last build threads. PM me if you need help.

Re: Hold'em table dining top?

I simply cut another racetrack shape out of nicer wood, stained it, and I set it on top on Thanksgiving.

Thanks again Schmendr1ck. I did indeed misunderstand OPs post. Appreciate the constructive remark...DTF's sarcasm not so much.

Re: Hold'em table dining top?

Currently I'm in the planning stages of my first table but am thinking of doing a topper as well. There's actually a pretty good post about this on another forum:
