Re: Greenville SC game robbed yet again...

Thanks for the heads up. Is there a link for this? Robbery is one of the significant issues with playing in raked games.

I think robbery is an issue in any moderate- to high-stakes home game, regardless of whether or not it is raked.

Re: Greenville SC game robbed yet again...

My post is based on my limited exposure to raked games. I characterize raked games as having a lot of loosely associated players, more word of mouth, and more likely to have sketchy people involved. Non-raked games (even mid to high stakes games) are more likely to have closely associated players (friends, club members, etc), less word of mouth (because of the close association), and less likely to have sketchy players involved.

All of this considered, I think a raked game is more likely to get robbed.

None of this is meant to characterize all raked games or all non-raked games. Just tendencies, in my experience and opinion.

More info please (just out of curiosity, not in Greenville)

Particularly interested in where these games were being run, stakes, etc.

No cops were called, yes it was a raked sketchy game....one guy was assalted but other than that no injuries. I play a lot of home games but this game was one I would never think of going to....

As I've written before, $2k is far more than the average convenience store holdup. People get shot for $100 or less.

Yes, it's comforting to have your hands in the air with a gun in your face, knowing there is a Glock under your jacket that you can't get to. Dream on, Dreamer.

+1 played a game where a dumbass came in with a rifle, held it up, after he runs out 2 players jump up grab pistols out of their pockets, by this point he was long gone... did no good it was less than the 2k in this story more like 800~

Home Poker needs a sticky with some must-read threads (a la BBV) so these kind of missed jokes don't happen.

Re: Greenville SC game robbed yet again...

Do you mean where the jokes don't happen?

Not familiar with this sticky, but being more like BBV is not my goal.

I wonder how a sticky can help when a statement can mean what it says, or the complete opposite.
