Good Chip Stacks

I've been working on creating a good home tourney, I was wondering if you guys thought either of these was a good chip stack set out.

Please tell me what you think.

Re: Good Chip Stacks

Best off just going with making a standard tourny set if.. 1 & 5 chips are bleh... do like green:25 black:100 blue: 500 white: 1k red: 5k

start at 25/50 blinds and starting stack I would range anywhere from 5k to 25k depending on how deep you want to play/ how long etc.

Re: Good Chip Stacks

for like a 5k stack can just do 8 green 8 black 4 blue 2 white ... add a red for 10K or more ( or just add more black blue and white if you want stacks to look bigger)

Re: Good Chip Stacks

IMO your starting stacks are too big compared to your lowest denomination. I like 100 to 200 X BB tournies so if you start with 5s and 5/10 blinds then give 1000 to 2000 in chips.

I have the same observation as jmrode.

If you've got red, green and black chips -- and you plan on having 5's, 25's and 100's -- then you should have red 5's, green 25's and black 100's.

Re: Good Chip Stacks

Most vegas casino tournaments use chip values 25, 100, 500, 1k, 5k. It's very standard, and it's nice to use a familiar structure at home games, as you'll be on familiar territory if you go to vegas. I find "weird" starting stacks or chip values frustrating.

A typical 5k stack will be 8*25 + 8*100 + 2*500 + 3*1k. Throw in a 5k to get a 10k "deep stack" tournament.

I have these chips for my home games. Paulson is the best and is used by many casinos. I use the 1s and 5s for cash, like casinos do.

BTW, it may seem strange to start tnys with 25 chips. The reason for this is that you run your 1/2 and 2/5 games with the 1s and 5s so there's a clean separation in chip denominations between cash and tournaments. Typically blue = $1, red = $5, green = 25t, and black = 100t. Above that, colors often vary.

Re: Good Chip Stacks

^^ I agree with using standard chip values and stacks. But I like have not more than three colors on the table at any time if I have enough chips. Using 5 demons at one time should be avoided if at all possible.

That would make a 5K stack 8*25 + 8*100 + 8*500.

10K would be tougher to keep at 3 demons. If I didn't have enough chips, I'd go with 8*25 + 8*100 + 8*500 + 5*1k.

Re: Good Chip Stacks

The nuisance I see is the bad 500-1000 step. Once the 500s are in play they seem to get in the way. I think 4 per stack is plenty. Go with more 1000s.

Of course, since it seems your chips are not denominated you can start with 5s or even 1s. This way you will never need the 1k.
