Face Up Card treated like scrap of Paper question

I think I understand this rule, but want to clarify. Cards are dealt, flop done, card is face up on the deck. If I read the scrap of paper rule correctly, I would lay that card down and use the next card that is correct (face down) as the burn. Is this the correct way of thinking or do I treat it as an exposed burn?

Yes you have it right. Treat a boxed card as a scrap piece of paper and toss it in the mucked pile and continue dealing

Didn't know this rule. I guess I'll agree.

Anyone have an idea as to why it's not just treated as an exposed burn? I never understood why accidentally exposing a card while dealing preflop = exposed burn, but "scrap of paper" = 2 cards burned.

What if the boxed card is a burn card? Do you treat it as an exposed card, show all, then burn it? Or does it go in the muck (a la scrap of paper) with an additional burn?

So toss it aside, burn the next card, and flip the turn?

Yes and to forsee the next question. If the boxed card is one of the flop cards you still throw it away.

This makes sense, as the dealer might have seen it beforehand.

I still don't get the "dump an extra card" concept.

Thanks man. There was no next question. It happened at FW Casino this past week. The first burn card was a boxed card. I wasn't in the hand. It went bet-fold. I asked the dealer after the hand if the boxed card was supposed to have been used as the burn card. He said that it was treated as an exposed card. Like I said, I wasn't in the hand, so I didn't press it.

If it's one of the flop cards, would you toss it, burn, and then deal a new flop card? Or just toss it and the card on top now belongs to the flop?

next card is the flop.

Best way to remember is the boxed card is considered a scrap piece of paper. It gets tossed aside and you continue the deal
