Double or Nothing Tournament Double or Nothing Tournament

I do a poker night at my house the main tourney is $60 buy in with $10 Bounty. We sometimrs do a .25/.50 cash game after but its hit or miss.

I have been toying with the idea of doing a Double or nothing tournament before the regular tournamnet. My main goal is to have a quick tourney while we are waiting on players to arrive and not have a lot of dead time between the main tournamnet.

We have between 6 and 11 for the main tournament so I am thinking the Double or nothing would be between 4 and 11. I was thinking $30 buy in as that would put the total night at $100 for most players. I was thinking if it is an even number it is easy so if we have 4 pay 2, 6 pay 3, 8 pay 4, 10 pay 5. If we have an odd number I was thinking bubble gets thier money back. I have never tried this so I am not sure on a good structure. I was thinking below with 15 min blinds and 1k starting stack.

25/50
50/100
75/150
100/200
150/300
200/400
300/600

I am predicting around 6 players and I want it to last around 1 hr.

Has anyone tried a live tourney like this before?

I was thinking of running a DoN myself lately, but was unsure of how to find the final level.
Would it be when (bb = 5% starting stack x 2) or in other words when the big bling is equal to 10% of the starting stack?

Have you guys played double or nothing tournaments with friends or in your home games? I proposed once this type of tournament in my games and everybody decided against it because of how long it could take.

I have not run one yet but in theory it should be shorter then a normal tournament as once you get to the money you stop. In a standard tournament you would continue to play a few more levels untill you have a winner.

For a small group, low stakes. 100% fine with a 'lets play until (time) and chop with whoever is still in".

Yes, I think the tourney will end quicker when you stop at 50% of the field eliminated. Do be mindful that players should tighten up when approaching the bubble, and it will run longer than the point in which a standard tourney eliminates 50%.

Looks like I'm going to run my first double or nothing tournament tomorrow before my regular tournament. I should have 7 players and we are going to do a $20 buy in. So in this scenario I'm going to pay 4th Place $20 and then when he is eliminated the remaining players will win $40.

I'm going to use the above structure and start with 1K stacks. My theory is it will lasts around 1 hour and 1/2. Since in this scenario there are two bubbles it may last longer but I think the second bubble people will be more willing to gamble.

I will post an update on how it went and how long it lasted.

If this is a double-or-nothing tournament, there is still only one bubble, which is when 4 players are remaining. Once a person busts in 4th, it's over.

Good luck, and have fun!

I don't want to deal with odd amounts like $46.66 so I am doing money back for the odd player and then the remaining 3 will get double.

GL, let us know how long the bubbles took. Personally I like blue's time tourney structure a bit more.

After some last minute cancelations we started with 5 players since we had an even payout we decided to do $20 buy in and pay top 2 $50 each. It lasted just under 1 hr or 4 levels.
