If you haven't bought your chips yet, I just wanted to share my 2 cents.
I bought a set of 1000 Nexgen Vegas Edge Spot chips a couple years ago, and I find that 1000 chips work well for tournaments and cash games alike, up to 2 tables. For example, use green, black, purple, orange, yellow for a tournament and use white, red, blue for a cash game. This is good for when a cash game wants to break out after people bust out of a tournament.
I will second the previous opinion about the Nexgen PRO chips. i have seen them and they look and feel great. (I had buyers remorse when they came out.) You can get them with $ markings, or unmarked. They are also a little lighter than the Vegas Edge Spot type. I used to think heavier was better, but try lugging around 1000 chips.
Discount Casino gear has about the best prices for the Nexgen PRO chips I have seen.

Before you order, the best tip I can share is to calculate the number of each chip color/denomination for the maximum number of people you would host, plus coloring up chips for tournament play, plus any extra chips if you allow buy-backs, add-ons, etc. Then order your chip set through a website that allows you to customize the number of chips. Some websites don't allow custom quantities, and some only allow custom quantities in increments of 25.
This will save you from having too many or too few chips of a certain color. For example, the 500 Monte Carlo set has 50 yellow ($1000) chips, which may be too many and only 50 ($100) chips, which may be too little.
I also like the 1000 chip acrylic carrying case with plastic chip trays instead of a metal case. I found the acrylic 'cube' case fits nicely and looks good on a bottom shelf of a bookshelf.
Good luck.
