It's looking great! Are you doing the work yourself, doing it with help, or did you hire someone?

Do you have enough room for a bumper pool table, there always popular. I ran a successful game for many years and food was always the biggest item outside of the poker itself...
Unfortunately, there is not enough room for a pool table. In a few years I may convert the basement to a poker room and make that room a pool room with a nice Brunswick.

Thanks for the compliments. We hired a contractor to do the work. They have been working on the house since November with updates. The contractor has been nice enough to allow me to help out and learn along the way. The poker room will require roughly $140 (4hr) in labor to complete the floor installation. Not to bad considering the size of the room.

I suggest pinball machine and darts.... both fun games for a poker room that can be enjoyed quickly.

The flooring has been completed. I am hung up on finding an overhead light that I like.

It's coming along nicely. Thanks for giving us these updates. The floor is fantastic.

I noticed you replaced panelled french doors with no lights to door with lights, which are occluded in some way. What is that material? Can you explain your thoughts on that? Does that let light in?

Thanks for the feedback. The paneled French doors have not yet been painted. Once painted, the plastic will be removed to allow the glass free from obstruction allowing light to go into the room. There are large windows in the family room that should allow plenty of light in the room during the day. A ginormous 70 inch fan was put in today to cool the room. Hope to have everything all completed with the home 2/21 ish. The entire home renovations have been going on since November 2014.

Okay, I see now. I was wondering why you'd do that with new french doors.

70" fan? That's huge.

Pardon me for piggybacking on your thread, but we should be closing on a house the 20th and it has a ginormous finished basement which will be used for large poker parties (thirty plus players possible). The problem is I can't just turn the whole thing into a poker den as the wife, although she is a fellow poker enthusiast, wants to be able to have crafting parties of similar size in the same space.

And I am on the fence as to if I want permanent tables dotting the room as we have young grandchildren who would use it as their primary playspace if it was raining outside. Although an adult would be with them due to age (theirs not mine), I don't think a bunch of eyebrow height furniture all over the place would be a good idea. My thought is to get plastic folding tables and really nice custom poker table toppers. I don't mean the folding kind of topper, either. I want a rigid, round top that is of higher quality than what is commonly out there. Does anyone make that sort of thing? I've looked and all I found so far are either the low quality toppers, regular poker tables that can be covered with a regular top, or non-convertibles that use a folding table as the base.

I want to go with round tables because most of the guests would be those from our bar poker background and they're used to round tables and self-dealing so long tables would slow things down. Also, round might be better for the wife's crafting parties.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Doc, my main concern would be stability. I've got a couple of rectangular plastic folders, and they work fine for outdoor dining or the kids' table at Thanksgiving. But I'm not sure I'd want to put a heavy wooden topper on it and then have a bunch of poker players leaning on it all night.

Maybe one of our resident builders can chime in with an expert opinion.

Kestell makes folding octagonal tables and sells toppers you can use to convert them to non poker use (both folding and non folding)

Seems like this should be broken out into a new threads, but...

What you want is a round banquet table, commercial grade if possible. You can put a hoody on it, or just throw a couple of thick blankets on it.

We once had a 6 foot table like this. We could easily get 10 people around it. It was cozy, but quite workable. As much room as an oval. It was so big, that one needed help getting the cards back to the dealer for a shuffle, or to move the pot to the winner, but among friends, that is no trouble.

Check Craigslist for them, or for restaurant or catering equipment sell-offs.

We had one of these, too. It's okay, but I'm not a fan of the trays and the small, raised surface. Cards tend to slide off.

Well, the inspection was today and unless the seller corrects a whole litany of issues, we won't be getting that house.

I will keep your suggestions in mind eneely because we will get a house one day and have the same need no matter which one we get.

any custom table builder should be able to build a kickass topper. It's basically the table without the legs, you just set it on the table you already have. When not in use, stack it/them against the wall. Should be simple to build to fit your existing table tightly.

You get the same padded rail and velvet or speedcloth surface of any custom table, wife gets something she can craft on, and the folding tables can be cleared out for the grandkids. Or used for forts.

I agree with the suggestion to just build a few nice toppers. That's what I did. I actually bought these prepackaged kits from the website www.buildyourownpokertables.com, and got everything that I needed all together (with the exception of the wood, or course). The materials were awesome, and the site even gives you free plans and directions on exactly what to do. My tables turned out really nice!!

95% complete with this bad boy. In preparation for opening night mid April. Just need to order some photos and fix a poker chip display case that the contractor busted by accident up in error when it fell from the wall and damaged the wall, baseboard and case

Poor pic

Still trying to decide if I am going to keep the Double Diamond or sell it off. Would like to put a golden tee or NBA Jamz/Blitz. decisions decisions

Picture of 1 of the cases that dropped and needs some serious work. Too bad the company i purchased these custom the from went out of business.

All that is left is to get some (5) large 24x36 photos to hang on the wall, (2)floor lamps, tourney chip set (Nevada Jacks again?) the case put back together if possible, paint scraped from the glass in the french doors and some mixers for the drinks! I will post some picks mid April with the completed project.

I will post s
