Re: Bizarre River bluff at home game, thoughts plz

cheers for response dude.
On the flop I still thought in the game my hand could've been good, yet theres a lot of psychos in the game so I just thought there was no point squeezing on the flop. A lot of floating goes on and such and I just thought calling or maybe folding was the way to proceed.
On the river my plan was always to call any bet pot or below, but then he tanks, the tell at the table i had on him was strength, and then he just jams like 19 or w.e into like 9-10 which I felt changed the whole situation, it was only like the 4th hand of the session for me and I just couldn't call, talked myself out of it a bit, online I may have just snapped off against some people

This is illogical - in a loose/spewy game like this you should only be raising for value, even from the button. Playing the same loose/spewy game as everyone else means you're reliant on catching better cards than them - 0EV in the long term.

What are you going to do when the bluffy villain bets a flop that your T5o has missed completely?

That makes your river fold even worse.

If that's the case, why are you here?

And defending your play no matter what.

Hey, we've all been there.

Verbal: "I really don't think I could have played that hand any differently."

Tiny internal voice: "You IDIOT!"

I couldn't tell you how many times someone's given me advice, I've argued with them, and the next time that situation came up, done it the way they suggested.

I don't push back because I disagree, necessarily, I just want to hear the full argument.

Re: Bizarre River bluff at home game, thoughts plz

ye tit4tat i agree entirely, i'm not trying to argue or defend my play, if I thought i'd played it perfectly and it was the most profitable way to play it i wouldn't be here asking for your advice on it.
there was defo an internal voice tbh the pot prob cost me like 40-50 quid. it wudve instantly put me like 25 up, and the opponent would prob of just tilt spewed another couple of buy ins. As it actually went I didn't tilt that bad, but the opponent ran really good all night, and played OK in some decent spots and ran out a big winner. I on the other hand couldn't get anything going. Running a big check raise river bluff to try and win a 7-2 bounty, and just never really finding any good spots, folding to a lot of squeezes and just generally slaughtering short stack cash game strat haha

Just played another big home game with this guy and sucked out on him to win like a 700BB pot like 11 months later, karma? no, i'm just a fish who hits the occasional river to crush dreams.

Did you notice that apart from AJ&AT, no other Ax actually outkicks you?

Why not tack on 8 months later.... If you are playing Ax on the button and raising based on position... why not raise the flop or turn? Can he call with bottom pair after you raise the flop? Can he shove river if you raise the turn? That might be your better shot at pot control.

Yet, feels like he "crushes dreams" by winning a pot.

I am so sad this thread got bumped and that I wasted 10 minutes of my life reading this garbage.
