Hey all,

I am new to this forum. I do admit I joined with an agenda, but let me ask a question first. I am genuinely interested about how often people here play/organize live poker nights with their friends or wider group of people? Mostly I am asking about single-table tournaments?

Me and my friend are a mobile developer and designer respectively and are playing it a lot. That's why we started a pet project of ours and are working on a iOS/watchOS/tvOS application to help you organize such events. The main difference from the apps already out there will be simplicity, we want this to be a seamless experience that does not require any poker tournament organization skills.

It would be really cool to hear if this is something you do often, or are you focused mostly on online? We would be really glad to give any interested person a preview access to the app so we can collect some feedback.

I would advise against this, there are numerous apps already available, most of them free or just a few dollars. I get that you are offering a simple design, but eventually, people will want different features.

If the app can go buy the food and beer I would be interested in your newsletter.

As stated earlier, there are already quite a few apps and websites for this, and more being worked on, from threads here. Have you searched this forum for these threads?

With the popularity of poker going down, there has to be a better place to focus your development efforts. Keeping loving and playing poker, but find something else you are excited about that is growing.

That's my advice, anyway. Sorry to be a downer.

Heh? Says who. WSOP had highest numbers ever, online sites are breaking records all the time, and with USA about to open doors basically nationwide to sites like PokerStars its gonna get even bigger. Many states now have lots of poker, its not losing popularity its just spread out everywhere...millions of home games exist all over the world as well that go off record. Dont listen to the hype some casinos may try to tell you, just because they are losing money has nothing to do with it - they are just trying to convert more people into playing stupid a## table games and slots so they can actually make money (a normal poker room, even in the best casinos to play, total income from poker is roughly 1-3% of their revenue).

TV popularity may have diminished but that has nothing to do with the game itself and the number of people that play. Poker is bigger than ever, and its still growing.

I should have written "home poker." That is what the OP will depend on, not WSOP, casinos or PokerStars.

But I have nothing solid to back up that assertion, besides my own anecdotal observations. I admit that. There seem to be fewer games in my area. Old games hardly ever play or get many players. Traffic on this sub-forum is way down.

So allow me to post-post change my statement to "With the popularity of home poker going down, imo."

The funny thing is, in states like Michigan, Florida and Cali, where poker rooms are prevalent, home games are everywhere because its a common recognized social activity....some small friendly ones...and some VERY big ones that have armed guards and the like

I didnt mean that the intent of these devices were to be sold at the WSOP or used by people there, but just that hose numbers are higher than ever meaning poker has not lost popularity at all.

I wonder where you live that home poker is slowing down...do you have casinos near by? Legal poker rooms like Florida, Cali, Michigan, New Hampshire or Arizona or the like?

Maybe in states/countries with limited poker playing areas this can be happening due to tv ratings being down and less being shown, plus online is so limited, so if people have no outlet to play well run legal games they lose interest. however at least the online thing is ramping up in the USA and this should help in the 'poker-lite' areas

As far as losing traffic, it may be an anomaly, who knows. Again, however, in certain parts of the country this may be the case especially if you are in a 'poker-lite' state...but damn here in Michigan, Florida, Cali, others- the home games are everywhere.

Maybe take this into consideration when trying to promote apps, focus on 'poker-rich' states

The nearest casino is about a 4.5 hour drive away. There may be something to what you say.
