Any Home Gamers run a poker league using points system? Any Home Gamers run a poker league using points system?

I run a weekly game and would like to start league with a point system. In the past I ran a 12 week league with a freeroll at the end.

I took $5 a head from each weekly game, generally averaging 12-15 people every week.

Then after 12 weeks I did a freeroll tourney taking the top 10 point earners. How well you finished determined how many chips you started with in the freeroll.

Id like to hear from others to see how you run a league. Give me some ideas on how to run the point system instead of just doing 10pts for first then 9 for second and so on..

Please tell me below if you run a league and how your structure is, any nice rules to abide by, and what your point system is!

GO!

I'm not saying this is a great/terrible idea, just saying how they run it here.

We do something very similar, but everyone gets 1 point for showing up and playing. Then if you make the final table, (we do a 10 person final), you get 1 more for 10, 2 for 9th, you get the idea. We generally start with 3 tables, btw.

End of the 10 weeks, the 10 people with highest points play, but everyone gets dead even poker stacks. The only advantage for being 1st is you get to decide what the prize distribution will be.

I think they take $5 per person out like you do, but if we have 2 tables or less I think they just take $50 out total.

I'm involved in a home game league with a rotating cast of 14-15 regulars. We play 10 (sometimes 11 handed), once per week. It is a $40 (unlimited rebuy first 3 levels) sit n go format.

1st gets 10 points
2nd gets 6 points
3rd gets 3 points
4th gets 1 point

Only the top 3 actually get paid out, 4th is no cash, but does get 1 point.
Each week we take $40-$60 out of the prizepool which gets added to a "final table" at the end of the year. The 8 players with the most points get to play the final table and their starting stack is dictated by their season-long points total.

It's fun as you play the final table for $40 (no rebuys at final table) and there is a juicy $2500+ added to the prizepool as a reward for doing well all season.

Hope this gives you some good ideas.

I run a group that has been playing low stakes roughly-monthly NLHE single table rebuy tournaments (and occasionally 2 tables) for about 10 years. We have decided to start a league format for the first time.

The first game is tonight, so I don't know how well this will go over. The structure I came up with is below:

Season Format:
10 Monthly rebuy tournaments
Prize for season points leader
Championship Freeroll Tournament
Starting chips determined by points earned in Monthly tourneys
Monthly Tournaments:
Held every 3-5 weeks. If we cannot get at least 5 players, tourney will be rescheduled.
$10 Buyin, $10 Rebuys, $10 Addon (same as always)
10% of the prize pool will be held back for the Freeroll and the Points Leader prizes
The number of paid places depends on the number of players
5-6 players: 2 places
7-11 players: 3 places
12+ players: 4 places
League Points are awarded based on your finish
Player Points = (NumberOfPlayers – FinishPlace + 1 ) + 1*(InTheMoney) +1*(InFirstPlace)
English:
One point for playing
One point for every player you beat
One point if you finish in the money,
One point if you win the tourney
Example: 7 people, 3 places pay,
1st 9 pts (1pt Entry + 6pt NumBeat + 1pt ITM + 1 FP)
2nd 7 pts (1pt Entry + 5pt NumBeat + 1pt ITM)
3rd 6 pts (1pt Entry + 4pt NumBeat + 1pt ITM)
4th 4 pts (1pt Entry + 3pt NumBeat)
5th 3 pts (1pt Entry + 2pt NumBeat)
6th 2 pts (1pt Entry + 1pt NumBeat)
7th 1 pt (1pt Entry)
If 2 (or more) players bust out on the same hand, the higher finish place will go to the player that had more chips at the beginning of the hand.
Any chops need to include the finish place in addition to the money split.
Players can award the 1st place to one player, 2nd to the other,
or choose to split the championship points (in the example above if the top 2 finishers split the points, both would get 8 points)
Points Leader:
League points are the total of all points earned in the Monthly tournaments with the lowest 3 months scores dropped. (to allow up to 3 missed tournaments without penalty)
For the purposes of reporting on the race, we will drop 1 low score after the 3rd tournament, 2 low scores after the 5th tournament, and 3 scores after the 7th tournament. (does not affect the final totals which will have 3 scores removed)
If there is a tie for points the tiebreakers are:
Number of 1st place finishes
Number of InTheMoney finishes
Number of tournaments played
Cut for high card
$20 prize will be awarded to the player with the highest point total after 10 monthly tournaments (taken from the Freeroll prize pool)
Championship Freeroll Tournament:
All players that have played in 4 or more Monthly Tournaments are eligible to play in the Championship Freeroll Tournament, held in November or early December
Championship Freeroll Tournament will be NLHE, no buyin, no rebuys or addons.
Starting chips will be determined by the finishing place in the points total race.
The lowest finishing (but eligible) player will start with T4000 chips.
Each higher point finisher will receive T500 more chips
If there is a tie for points the tiebreakers are:
Number of 1st place finishes
Number of InTheMoney finishes
Number of tournaments played
Cut for high card
If an eligible player cannot attend the Freeroll, their chips will removed from play, but this will not impact other players starting stacks.
Prizes:
$20 Bounty : paid to whoever busts the Points Leader out of the Freeroll
The top 3 finishers in the Freeroll split the balance of the remaining prize pool. (55%, 30%, 15%)
Remaining Prize Pool = Money from Monthlys - $20 (points leader prize) - $20 (bounty)

The winner of the Freeroll shall be declared the Champion of the 2017 season.

We just finished our 5th season. ..our point system was derived from somebody's recommendation in this forum. I think I tweaked it a little, but it's like this:
sq rt of (players x buy in)/(finish + 1).

Evidently, it's a way to reward the better finish. Especially if there are more people, you get a bigger score.

We usually get 12-16 players/ month. The top 6 point earners qualify for the final table. Same format as the others, take $10 from each buy-in, put toward the final table. Throw out your lowest score (bad beats, missed game). Visitors welcome. They buy into that nights prize pool only, no rake. We've got a lot of guys who can't commit to a whole season, but will play 3-4 times a year.

We also hold a wild card tourney a week before the finals, for the guys who didn't earn a spot in the top 6. ( must attend at least 7/10 games to get in the wild card)...Winner gets a seat at the final table.
This is a good way to keep everyone interested. Even if you're dead last in points you can win your seat at the finals.

And we added a game play wrinkle I stole from a local room....everyone gets one extra chip, no value. This chip can be used at the end of a hand, whether you are involved in the hand or not, to see the winner's hand. So at least once a night you can tell if you made a good fold, have a read on someone, or just got your ass bluffed.

Anyway, good luck ,,let us know how it goes.

Wow....I like the Chip idea, not sure if the guy who runs our tourney will like it.

Now we're playing a league of 6 monthly games where your 4 best games count (as some might miss out on a game or two). The more players, the more points you get (but we're limited to a single table), and obviously - the higher, the more points you get. We also put a bounty on the current leader of the league. If you bust the leader you get extra points, if noone does (i.e. the leader wins) - he gets the extra points. The last 3 games we give 50% more points (so people don't give up, stole that one from pfapfap).

The winner of the league gets 25% of the prize pool and a free seat for the season finale. 2nd in league also gets a free seat. Top 10 are invited to the season finale but they have to pay (except top 2). The remaining 75% of the prize pool is added to the season finale prize pool and we pay top 3 here, instead of 2 in the regular games.
You get more chips the higher up you ended in the league. Previously we tried giving chips based on the points you had, but we're trying with set chip-amounts now so it should be more friendly to worse players. (If you're a bad player with start stack of 7k while the leader has 20k, you're not going to have a good time.)
