This is actually for a home game, but I'm curious about the rule in general.

Player A bets 10

Player B raises to 30

Player A verbally says "100"

What's the action?

Player A raise to 100?
Player A raise to 130?
Player A raise to 110?

Can Player A cut out 100 with red chips and then pull his 10 back? That's what I've been doing but it dawned on me that my action might not be clear.

Better example is I bet 12, villain raises to 24, I verbally say 58, cut out 58 in front of me (behind the betting line), put it out there (across the betting line), and pull my 12 back. No one has ever objected to this but I want to be sure I'm not accidentally angle shooting.

I think in the future I will say the number, pull my bet back, and then put out the whole amount. That should be clear enough, yes? Or will people be upset I'm pulling money out of the pot? Would this be allowed in a casino?

I like to announce my actions but say the minimum number of words. Also I'm bad at mental math, especially when stressed, so I don't want to do the mental conversion from "raise to" to "raise, X more" ie from the above example, say "58" and then put out 46 in chips.

Hopefully this makes sense and you can see what my question is trying to get at.

tl;dr I want to verbally announce my action, with the minimum number of words, make the mental math as easy as possible for myself, and not upset anyone that my action is unclear.

Thanks

the action would be a raise to 100 dollars (70 more to call)

If you announce the raise first, you can put the money in any way you want. your verbal announcement is already binding.

Just say "100 total" and you can put the amount there 1 chip at a time while getting coffee, putting your whole stack back and forward and there is still no problem.

This is pretty clearly a raise to 100. If you say "raise 100," it should be 130, but in the casinos I've played the dealer usually allows either 100 or 130 in this case.

They way you cut your chips and place your bets is fine in a casino, so it should be fine in home games which are generally less strict also.

Then your verbal is of no help.

We have to wait for you to put chips in to know whether you mean 100 or 110 or 130.

Verbal that isn't clear leaves you open to a ruling where you're held to a bet you didn't intend.

Better to be more clear or shut up and let your chips speak.

If you are going to verbalize, which I endorse personally, then at least be clear enough with what you say, even if it takes two or three words. The whole point of verbalizing action is to make your intent clear to everybody. This case looks like he made it 100 to go or a raise of 70.

Home game... I hope someone will ask if it's unclear to them.

But yes, you should be clear that you mean "100 ___" (total, straight, to go, on top, more, etc).
