Ordering the Dunes Clays from Apache for a 6-8 handed cash game. Have a 500ct case.
Im thinking something along the lines of:
.25c (x150)
$1 (x150)
$5 (x125)
$25 (x50)
$100 (x25)
What do you guys think?

.25c x100
$1 x 150
$5 x 250
In a *very* active 5-10 handed .25/.50 NLHE/PLO game, I've touched my $25 chips once. Granted, I also have a 1000 chip set, but it still holds if your guys aren't generally guying in deep. My group generally buys in for $100 each with rebuys in that amount.
You could arguably go below 100 in .25 chips. Really, you're just wanting enough around to make change. 3 barrels (75) should be enough for that and allow you to go up to 275 in $5, which will be your workhorse chip if your game has a decent amount of action. If it's more limp and watch, then you might get more $1 chips.
At the end of the day, figure up what the average amount is on your table each night, and make sure you have enough chips to cover that amount. $25's will likely not be needed unless your .25/.50 plays like a 1/3 or 2/5.

Played last night, lots of mixed game gambling going on. Probably had at least 25-30 $25 chips on the table by the end of the night.

I play in $0.25/$0.50 games where the buy-in is $20 max. I also play in $0.25/$0.50 games where the buy-in is $200. The point being, we don't have any idea what chip distribution is needed to suit your game.
Also, I wonder if your set should be tuned to JUST $0.25/$0.50 or if there should be any thought of supporting bigger game.
Lastly, I know a 500 chip case { briefcase } will hold more than 500 chips, perhaps as many as 600 chips.
All that being said, for 6 - 8 players I suggest:
100 $0.25 chips
200 $1 chips
200 $5 chips
"what will fit" in $25s plus a tiny number of $100s (just in case)

As someone who bought these chips as well as other China Clays (Pharaohs) I would recommend getting more than 500. Don't limit quantity to what fits in your case. Buy cheap chip storage box for extras. When I ordered more the shipping was exorbitant and the colors didn't always match my existing chips.
Get more than you think you will need now. And as mentioned above, cut back on the quarters. You don't need that many.
