2-7: got stacked, still pay? 2-7: got stacked, still pay?

We play 2-7 in our home game ($5 per player)...yesterday, I got stacked (about $150ish), and had to rebuy for another $100.

Question: Do I have to pay? After all, in table stakes you can never lose more than you have on the table. Others argue that it's a side bet unrelated to your chip stack.

PS. I paid, but was just wondering what most people do.

Thanks.

When I've played, if someone gets stacked and doesn't buy back in they generally don't have to pay. If they do get back in they do pay. I'm generally viewing it as a side bet, and only not forcing someone to come out of pocket because it's $5 in a home game, and no one is trying to get stacked to avoid paying $5.

I think hero owes $5 no matter his/her chips status. Even if Hero is leaving the game after being stacked, he shill owes $5

The host is not responsible for collecting the $5, like any other side bet. This is an issue between the players. The only way I would hold the host responsible is if everyone had tossed in $5 at the start of the session and left the money (or chips) for the host to hold.

Exactly this.

We do the 7-2 also. If you bust against a 7-2 winner somehow and leave we just let it slide. If you rebuy you owe the winner with the 7-2. Just the way we do it. Don't think there is a right or wrong rule here. Mostly a group /host decision.

I say let it slide, my stack is my payment. Dont kick a guy when hes down.

I would pay, side bet is a side bet.

I would expect others to pay. Doubt I would press the issue if they didn't, but it would be a cheap lesson to learn.

This is how we play as well. A guy getting stacked in a home game is usually not having fun. Nickel and diming him over some kind of gambler's honor is ill-advised.

We've played for years and the guy who gets stacked by the 27 never pays, even if he rebuys. As others said why rub the salt in? The guy paid with his stack which is almost always more than the bounty.

In my game, making someone pay your for seven-deuce out of their pocket because you busted them is one of the best feel goods.

IDK, I view 2-7 as part of the game, and therefore part of table-stakes. If you lose your $200 stack to 72, then the winner gets $5 + the remaining $195 dollars. Something just feels wrong about owing $5 more than you had in play.
