Starting a .10/.20 home game 10min 20max buyin. Just looking on some input of what I should use for starting stacks. Usually we play

White= .10
Green= .25
Blue= .50
Black= 1.00
Red= 5.00 (later on in game when lots of rebuys)

I guess I'm asking is there a need for the .25green? I know the guys I play with like to see lots of chips infront of them.

Go with $0.05, $0.25, $1, and $5.

You should always have dollars because they're a good basic unit, which means $0.50 is out because 2× denominations are a waste.

As to $0.05 instead of $0.10, nickels are much better for making change. Dimes get messy because 25 cents isn't a multiple of 10 cents.

$10.00 buy-in would look like:
20 nickels = $1.00
20 quarters = $5.00
4 dollars = $4.00

$20.00 buy-in would get an extra five $1.00 chips and a $5.00 chip

enjoy . . .

Also don't put green and blue together if you can help it. Many folks are a bit color blind and the green/blue is the very common.

One would think that nickles would put to many chips in play no?

Nobody needs more than one stack. And if someone rebuys, don't bother with nickels or quarters, just go straight to dollars and fives.

The problem with dimes and quarters together is that it creates awkward betting and change situations. They don't multiply evenly into quarters. Let's say one person bets $1.45 with five quarters and two dimes, and three people call with six quarters each. Now what?

But if nickels are the chip in play, well now it's easy. Swap a quarter for four nickels, throw back three nickels to the callers, and you're done.

Make it a .25/.25 game. That way, all you need are 25c, $1, and $20 chips. The $1s are the workhorse chips and the $20s are rebuys.

You wont need more than 100 quarters on the table as they are blind chips and are otherwise useless.

I was thinking about this too, though from the way OP describes the size of this game, I'd go with $0.25, $1, $5. A $20 chip seems too big for the way this game probably plays.

I've personally never liked $0.10/$0.20. It's always seemed like the type of blind structure people start with when they want to play a $20 "cash game." Then, a half-hour in, the host is like, "Okay, blinds are going up to $0.20/$0.40!"

Since your chips are not denominated the ideal amounts from efficiency standpoint would be $0.10, $0.50, $2.00 but that will probably be awkward for many.

I agree with the above to move to $0.25/$0.25. It eliminates the nickels and won't play much, if any, higher.

Right, I find .10/.20 sort of awkward, while .25/.25 is really the same size game, and much simpler to bet with standard chips.

I sort of like the .10, .50, and 2.00 chip idea, though, if you insist on sticking with .10/.20. You could give it a try and see if smoke is coming out of anyone's ears.

I thought of that when I was looking for chips. Desert Palms are available in those and more progressions.

$0.10
$0.50
$2
$10
$50

call the chips "1" "5", and "20" (or 25), and life is grand.
