Ed Sheeran took me out of it too. I couldn't stop seeing this face when they had him on screen

I didn't even know who Ed Sheehan was. Cultural illiteracy!

I didn't mind that character particularly.

Re: Game of Thrones TV Thread - ***NO BOOKREADERS***

I know I can't be the only one who knew right away what was up in the opening scene with Walder Frey. I read a review that said something about a buzz starting around the room when everyone "started to figure it out." Umm... One of the last things we saw was Walder getting killed, and now he's alive. How was it not immediately obvious?

The editing of the chamberpots/books/food slop scene was pretty gross. It also reminded me of the editing in Snatch, when cousin Avi goes to England. I'm sure it's a coincidence.

Watching as the end credits flashed by, I was stunned by the huge amount of people that worked on the show. Seriously, it just kept going and going, to the point where I actually noticed it.

Overall, I liked the episode. I didn't think it was as boring as others did.

I briefly thought it was a flashback then after 10 secs or so was like "oh, right".

Yeah it was solid. Looked nice. Did what it needed to do.

Re: Game of Thrones TV Thread - ***NO BOOKREADERS***

Several reviews suggested that the visible giant in the Night King's horde is Wun Wun. That makes no sense: Wun Wun died at Winterfell, south of the wall. Am I missing something?

Can't be Wun Wun IMO. But the blue eye is the one that got arrowed I think. That's a hell of a coincidence. Could the writers have actually screwed up?

Re: Game of Thrones TV Thread - ***NO BOOKREADERS***

Actually it looks like Bran's vision was of the future, and the undead horde were south of the wall. So they could've resurrected Wun Wun when they got down to wherever he was laid to rest. Strange they wouldn't have burned the body though.

Re: Game of Thrones TV Thread - ***NO BOOKREADERS***

It's probably just a coincidence and not WunWun. I think I read somewhere that that scene was supposed to be somewhere near Eastwatch By The Sea (as a future vision).

Re: Game of Thrones TV Thread - ***NO BOOKREADERS***

Since the undead were able to break through the protection of the Three Eyed Raven's lair once the Night King touched Bran in his vision, does this mean Bran going past the wall will allow them to break through the wall's protection as well?

It's a popular theory. I'm hoping that's not the case though, that the only reason the 3ER lair protection was broken was because Bran was inside when he was touched. I want to see the Night King bring down the wall, not pass through all nonchalant.

Re: Game of Thrones TV Thread - ***NO BOOKREADERS***

It feels like years have passed since the last episode. Maybe that's because I spent most of the off-season politarding it up in the Politard forum. I'm ok. No need to worry (yet).

As everyone pointed out, the opening scene was awesome. Not GOAT considering the episodes we just came away from last season, but still really sweet. The rest of the episode was pretty standard ep1 + setup. Not much of it was memorable on a single viewing though, so I guess that's an argument for why this episode might actually be worse than it first seemed.

Also, the speed of Jorah's downgrade from Obamacare to Trumpcare reminded me of Varys's strange time jumps.

Maybe Jorah watches the show too. That is reason enough .

Anyone else just roll their eyes with all these over the top attempts to show "girl power" - Arya, Dany, Sansa, Brienne, little 10 year old punk? Cersei is the only one who legitimatey pulls it off. Does Martin have all daughters or something?

Dude, contemptful isn't a word. I think you mean contemptuous.

I do get a little sick of SJWs analyzing GoT in a postmodern feminist light. I don't think gender politics are a significant theme of the show; indeed, both male and female characters have depth and seriousness.
