The way this reads, if I grab a sandwich and then crash on Cersei's couch, I should be able to live with her forever.

If she knew the remaining stems and seeds of the Stark family were back in control of Winterfell, do you think she returns there or continues her quest to kill Cersie? I can picture her going home and saying to Sansa " while you were busy banging Jeofrey, THEIMP, the Bolton bastard and god knows who else, I was ......."

Arya, along with Dany are the only 2 characters who will never be killed off under any circumstances.

I'm still trying to figure out how Euron found the men and resources to build 1,000 ships and properly man them in such a short period of time.

I was wondering why they matter even if it was covered out in the woods. Oaths, rights , gods , whatever are solely for suckers and mean very little when push comes to shove in their world.

My guess is that she thinks they're all dead. She basically said this to iirc the Hound when she was traveling with him ("My family's all dead and I have nowhere to go"). Or maybe they're portraying her post-Braavos character as one of stern will and laser focus on her "list" so maybe she doesn't go back even if she knows for a fact someone is there. The reunion would be very satisfying to me though.

ETA but she literally told Jaqen she was going home so shrug

I think only a very small faction of his people left with Theon and his sister. He also may have been traveling with a significant force, but I do agree. It seems a little hyper spaced to me as well.

While we're all gathering resources and strengthening our walls and towers and building archers, Euron put all his points into Shipbuilding.

I try not to think about fast travel too much because it ruins the show, I just choose to believe that time isn't necessarily linear for all characters. (Like, for example, when Jaime was in captivity. He was only caged up for a couple of eps but then when he and Brienne are talking about their fight his excuse for her being better was that he had "been sitting in a muddy pen wrapped in chains for a year." Obv that was added to inform the audience how long he had really been there to give us some sense of how time has passed, they just have a really hard time keeping in uniform.

The way to tell he didn't ruin the scene is that literally 0 people who didn't know who he was were commenting on his presence or acting as if it didn't fit.

If you can't look past the actor being famous for other things then that's a you problem.

Like if Shaq is in Game of Thrones and you're thinking "why is Shaq doing this?" then it's your problem for thinking of him as Shaq as opposed to the character he is playing.
Yes, I would be 100% fine with that

Well, at least you're consistent. Guess it's time to squeeze in all of the different actors' favorite athletes, pop stars, and random pseudo-celebs, CDL says it's fine.

Time for Peyton Manning to be a new Lord in the North! Time for Bill O'Reilly to appear as a Maester! Time for Kim Kardashian to be Jon Snow's new love interest! Actually, on second thought, I wouldn't mind her being a random prostitute in Littlefoot's brothel!

My point here isn't that what Arya is doing is not morally ambiguous or that we're not supposed to question it. My point is how it is getting presented to the audience. When she killed the Freys we had a scene dehumanizing them, with them toasting and cheering as Arya was talking about the Red Wedding. With the Lannister soldiers we had a scene humanizing them. We're not going to get Arya killing them without a sharp change in how they're getting presented.

One of the good things about the series is that it frequently presents characters as "good guys" and then has them doing some pretty morally questionable **** (and vice versa of course, with characters like Jaime). But it doesn't hold your hand, it sticks to narrative convention. Arya's revenge is portrayed as justified and it's up to the audience to question that. Whether the show continues to do that now that it's free from the constraints of the books is anyone's guess. I hope we don't get Sansa going full on evil queen, it was hinted at pretty heavily this ep.

There's no way Arya intends to kill the soliders. I think the point of the scene was to show Arya that the world isn't as black and white as she has been seeing it in terms of good and evil.

The rank and file footsoliders of the Lannister army (or any army for that matter) are just regular people typically. Just because Cersei or Joffrey are monsters doesn't mean they all are.

It's clear that she is much more dangerous to them than they are to her. She is aware of guest rights and of the fact they aren't trying to hurt her, but she still understands them as enemies.
Arya won't trust Lannister soldiers to adhere to guest rights, for obvious reasons. Especially if anyone happens to recognize her, however unlikely that might be.

I agree the scene was intentionally creating tension, but not over whether Arya would just straight up kill them. Are the soldiers really good guys? Would the soldiers recognize her as a Stark? Would the situation escalate? As a viewer I certainly didn't think the soldiers would be able to hurt Arya, but I thought that might be or become their intention.

The way the scene ended, the sharing of food and laughing off her "joke", I think the tension concluded. For me that would raise the shock factor if by the start the next episode the Lannister soldiers are slaughtered. If that's the way they want to take Arya's character I guess it's possible, but I don't think that's the way she's heading.

She would not be able to slaughter them. The only way Arya can kill someone is when she is in disguise and has the element of surprise. She does not know kung fu and cannot just slaughter a bunch of soldiers at will in a head-on fight. She might have been able to kill one of them but then she would be instantly dead.

In the scene it was obvious the only risk would have been towards Arya if the soldiers had wanted to mess with her. Luckily for her, Ed Sheeran is a good guy, whoever the hell that is.

She's clearly a threat to them. You're right that she couldn't kill them all in straight combat, but she could very easily pick them off after they've gone to bed (just need to kill the watch quietly and the rest would be easy).

The scene was all about whether Arya has any humanity left or she will just kill everyone associated with her enemies.

During that scene, I actually wondered whether things would go in the "opposite" direction. Isn't Arya still a virgin as far as we know? (I was thinking consensual, not rape.) However, especially as a highborn lady, I guess she's probably not supposed to have sex until her marriage night. But she may not care about that social taboo.

However people are still pretty ridiculous as his part was small, his performance was fine and this type of thing happens.

I remember Lenny Kravitz randomly having a part in the Hunger Games and David Bowie played freaking Nikola Tesla in a movie (and a good movie at that), despite looking absolutely nothing like him.
Justin Timberlake wasn't an actor until he decided to become one

Did The Hound actually know those dead people?
07-22-2017 , 01:06 PM
Ye he did he stayed at that house with Arya in season 4 and stole the adults silver saying they would be dead by winter. To all the people tied up in knots about Aryas ability to take Walders face and body seems a strange thing to be bothered about. Its a world of dragons and ice zombies just put it down to magic.

Thought the episode was fine great opening scene and the perfect setup for a very busy season i would think.

Anyone else think the show is setting us up for a Sansa mega heel turn all this time? Don't like the fact that littlefinger is still hanging around up to no good. She told John she's learned a lot from her time with the Lannisters (Cersei). It's all leading to a power struggle for the Iron Throne from Sansa and John with Littlefinger pulling the strings imo.

If they go that route the most likely scenario is that at some critical juncture Jon chooses the dumb "honorable" route instead of some more practical but viscous alternative and that's when LF is able to convince Sansa to join him in a coup attempt.

I just think Ed looked ravishing in Lannister armor.
