If you think Arya is going to kill any of those soldiers, you completely missed the point of that scene.

If you want to pick a non-actor who is hence out of place in an acting role, David Bowie is probably not the choice you want to make given that he started acting in the 1960s.

If you want to keep making Ed Sheeran hot takes in a thread dedicated to GoT - please do so, it is tilting DIB nonstop and that can't be wrong.

Argh. My bad: it was Sting, not Bowie, that was in the awful Dune movie. My apologies for potentially leading some of you astray.

Sounds like Dib has some sort of odd "eunich" porn fetish.

I thought the scene was intentionally creating tension over whether she would kill them or not. She is clearly a bit conflicted about it. It sounds like some people watched the scene and asked whether the soldiers were going to hurt her, but I don't think that was ever the question. It's clear that she is much more dangerous to them than they are to her. She is aware of guest rights and of the fact they aren't trying to hurt her, but she still understands them as enemies.

Maybe her saying she's going to kill the queen was her way of trying to start something, or testing to see their response. And maybe the fact they laughed it off means they get to live, and that was the decision point. Is that your reading?

I do think she will end up killing at least one of them. And I think it's morally ambiguous - they showed no aggression to her and are clearly relative innocents. But they are also part of an occupying army of her family's sworn enemy. That's fair game.

It also wouldn't surprise me if they leave it ambiguous and then the soldiers factor in to the plot later - either by showing up alive at an important moment, or showing up as a face that she wears to cross someone off her list.

My thought was that Arya will abide guest rights after she only took the rabbit after thinking about it. I like my side of this bet!

In massive plot twist Ed Sheeran is going to rape and kill Arya.
07-20-2017 , 12:18 PM
I thought a lot of stuff in that scene literally just did not make sense, and that it's likely that we never see any of the soldiers and it's never referenced in any way ever again. Like, it looked like it was a completely contrived scene they added just to get arya's irl dream celeb to sing in the show.

The way to tell he didn't ruin the scene is that literally 0 people who didn't know who he was were commenting on his presence or acting as if it didn't fit.

If you can't look past the actor being famous for other things then that's a you problem.

Like if Shaq is in some movie and you're thinking "why is Shaq doing this?" then it's your problem for thinking of him as Shaq as opposed to the character he is playing.
I'd wonder why The Mountain was black and his brother and everyone else around is white so that would be incongruent. If they had Jay-Z instead of Ed Sheeran that would also be incongruent.

? I thought it articulated where Arya was going. I thought the irony in the comment about the trouble with the Freys was well done; and I thought it took a somewhat human step back from a show that is often a bit too brutal. What didn't make sense to you?
07-20-2017 , 03:11 PM
I got to agree the scene was made around Ed Sheeran's appearance rather than it being a scene that pushes the plot forward or develop a character in any way.

Most messages people have picked up from the scene could just have been assumed anyway. Nice bunch of young lads fighting for the lanisters to provide for their family? Big army, bound to be a few of them.
07-20-2017 , 03:13 PM
One would think that Arya would be just a little curious as to what was happening at her ancestral home. Are her stuffed animals as she left them? How's Old Nan doing? Are any of my family members still there?

Lol. Way to totally avoid the point of the question, and be forced to admit that you were wrong. Imagine that Shaq were cast as a large Unsullied warrior or whatever. There are no distractions or incongruities other than the fact that he is Shaq. Would you be 100% fine with it and still say:

But Shaq is an actor

And also no one cares so stop this ****ing derail
07-20-2017 , 04:18 PM
But unlike Ed Sheeram, more than 10 people would recognize Shaq.

However people are still pretty ridiculous as his part was small, his performance was fine and this type of thing happens.

I remember Lenny Kravitz randomly having a part in the Hunger Games and David Bowie played freaking Nikola Tesla in a movie (and a good movie at that), despite looking absolutely nothing like him.

I'm glad that dib gets to read this twice.

Seems like you gave up a bit of equity by including any of that crew but yeah that makes it pretty clear. I really hope that if something does happen the guy says "come to poppers" or its ed sharen who does it.

Why would guest rights apply to people eating in the woods?

http://gameofthrones.wikia.com/wiki/Guest_right

Quote:
Guest right is an ancient and sacred tradition in Westeros. When a guest, be he common born or noble, eats the food and drinks the drink off a host's table beneath the host's roof, the guest right is invoked. Once invoked, neither the guest can harm his host nor the host harm his guest for the length of the guest's stay.
07-20-2017 , 05:33 PM
so maybe it was just supposed to invoke the whole guest right / Red Wedding thing to Arya then

the tension in that scene was all from her perspective, as those kids were not at all concerned that this girl might slaughter them all

She did just whack a whole bunch of Freys who all couldn't have killed a Stark.
07-20-2017 , 05:41 PM
if she was gonna kill them, i would think she would have just done it last ep

unless someone maybe makes her and she has to react out of self-defense or something, there's no reason for any of that to continue or us to see those kids again

but this show sometimes, man
