If so, that is really ****ing stupid. Not so much the "losing to a girl" part, but that there's zero reason why we would think Hound wouldn't lose to Brienne in the first place.

We don't know the rankings. All we know is everybody says Jaime used to be the best, Barristan was the best before that, Oberyn is ****ing boss and Hound and Brienne are somewhere around there

Maybe if his name was Barristan and we'd been told half a dozen times how he can't lose duels would this use of an infection be meaningful

I think the bite was just a device to further flesh out his character's weaknesses/his relationship with Arya. The scene where Arya wants to cauterize the wound is really good.

I'm 99% certain Tywin is dead now. His character was pretty much finished once Cersei told him point blank that she was sleeping with Jamie if you think about it. There's no way all 3 of them prance around in King's Landing with this massive elephant in the room. I doubt it was a coincidence of GRRM to kill of Tywin shortly after he found out two of his kids were screwing each other
