what would you do? what would you do?

Hi,

i played yesterday 100€ buy in tournament on local casino and had some hands on final table i would like to discuss with you:

i was chip leader with 65k (50bb). Second had about 30k and overall 8 players left.

I had aq in mp and raised 3bb and faced an allin (15bb). Would you call against not really tight player? He had 99 and he won.

Next hand: i was in sb and button (really tight player but with less chips, about 10bb) opened. I had qq and went all in. The button had kk and won.

Few hands later: I was in sb and had kk. The big blind, the tightest player, went all in after my 3 bb raise, i called for almost all my chips. He had aa and he won.

What i want to ask is: Would you just fold hands to wait that players are eliminated to guarantee to win some more money? Is it the right way to play as chip leader on final table? This mindset is completely against my mindset, but last week this scenario repeated itself 3 times and i couldnt win anything and the questions are flying in my head if there were something i made wrong.

AND in last 2 months i played 13 tournaments and made 7 times final tables. Is that a good rate?

1. Well played
2. Well played
3. Well played

....unless you are shortstacked at the final table just keep playing the way you are...

4. Yes, you are killing it with fire.

Thanks for reply Robert. There was another hand on final table, actually the most interesting hand of the night for me:

I was on about 30 bb and raised from mp with j10s. The sb ( chip leader with about 50+ bb) called my minraise. Flop was 457 rainbow. He donkbets very small, not more than 2bb. I called with back door flush draw and 2 overs. I turned j and he betted again very small (i had one hand history with him and he made a very large overbet at that time and showed after my fold his top pair), after that second small bett i was almost sure that i was ahead and i raised his bet 3 times. He called. The river was A and he went all in. I had to call for all my chips. By folding im still on top 4. What would you do there?

THAT is much more difficult.
The problem is the river ace changes everything. Sounds like you had about 10BB invested and could call another 20BB to win a total of ~60BB.
If you were ahead on the turn, the river ace hits all his bluffs, but he does not sound like a bluffer, since he overbet his top pair previously.

My guess is his Ax hit a pair on the flop and made two pair on the river. If you can fold and have ~20BB to continue with, that is what I would do, I would fold river. I am on the fold side of a lot of close situations, though, so maybe a call, getting 3:1 odds is fine also. I just think villain hit an ace on the river.

Yeah thats what i also thought first. He betted big when he hitted, but here after my raise on turn he should put me at least on j, probably and very likely aj. jjj is also possible. Thats why his big bet on river didnt make big sense to me. He should be scared of them and i also didnt think that he would call my turn raise with just a midpair. Many sixes were in his range imo. Then after i catched some behavioral differences with the situation where he had top pair, i called. He had just Q6s

Sounds like you are dialed in exactly right with these live players! Surely you will take down first place soon. Keep doing what you are doing, I would not change anything.

GL!
