This happens all the time on Ignition, and I feel like they're handing out free chips.. but unfortunately I have been unable to exploit this type of play.

For example, say we're all about 20bb deep and a player (often who will do this frequently) will open limp a good percentage of his range. He's even brought to showdown 'less than premium' hands. In MP he limps, the SB calls, and we see a flop for free in the BB. The flop comes AQ3, SB checks, we check, and MP min bets for about 1/4 pot.

Clearly, we can't call even getting great odds without any type of a hand. We also can't really raise, etc. because villain is stationy and won't "believe" us since we elected to check preflop. Do we just have to play these spots passively until we pick up some sort of a draw or made hand? Asking because it seems idiotic to let this guy continue picking up 4(with ante) bb.

Counter play is usually a big isolation raise preflop designed either to pick up the pot there or go heads up to the flop and make a cbet to take it down. Quite effective from the Btn but can also be done in the BB.

As you've alluded to, I also believe these bets are a 'something' type hand, often draws weak top pair or 2nd/3rd pair. Some players fold not wanting to invest chips into a big pot. Others still call. You need to adjust to each accordingly.

Generally the exploit is an isolation play or betting heavily/3 streets for value when you have a good hand.

If you know he's doing it frequently, why are you letting him get away with it? Try something different. Raise pre. Lead flop. Raise flop. Check-raise. Whatever.

Exploiting this type of player isn't about bluffing them off a weak range because they often don't fold enough - It's better to iso raise - esp IP when you have a decent hand. From the BB they are donating us equity by allowing us to see the flop without charge.

Yep. i think everybody nailed it. I sometimes do this to "quietly" steal blinds when near the bubble and everyone is tight. Simply raise pre and cbet, or just take a free flop and re-evaluate. It's wierdness imho is the micro sized pot and what anyone needs in terms of value to even bother trying to win it.
