Wow, was this a short-lived one. Live tournament, 7 players at table (3 missing at 10-handed).

Blinds: 25/50
Average Stack: 4000

All stacks are approximately equal, except Villian barely covers Hero. No reads, as this was the THIRD hand of the tournament.

UTG (4000)/(80BBs)
UTG+1 (4100)/(82BBs)
UTG+2 (4250)/(85BBs)
MP1 (4000)/(80BBs)
MP2 (4000)/(80BBs)
MP3 (4000)/(80BBs)
Villian (HJ) (4300)/(86BBs)
CO (4000)/(80BBs)
Hero (BTN) (4000)/(80BBs)
SB (4000)/(80BBs)
BB (4000)/(80BBs)

Pre-flop:
Hero is on the BTN with 65.

UTG calls 50. UTG+1 raises to 250. MP1 calls, MP2 calls, MP3 folds, Villian (HJ) calls, Hero (BTN) calls, SB calls, BB folds, UTG folds.

Flop (6 players, Pot = 1600): T82

SB checks, BB checks, UTG+1 checks, MP1 checks, MP2 checks, Villian (HJ) bets 1000, Hero goes all-in for 3750, folds back to Villian (HJ) who calls.

Villian: J7.

Turn: T82T (9600)
River: T82TQ (9600)

Villian wins the pot with J7 (Jack high).

This seems like it might have been spew by me. I thought he would fold a decent amount of the time but realize now that by betting 20BBs he was semi-committed OTF.

Thoughts?

I always think its best to play a little slower earlier on in a tournament without antes. I presume this had 100+ players? No point getting it in with 80BB's with a weak flush draw. Fair enough, the pot might be big and you could take it but others behind you or in this case the villain could have a better flush draw. Fold flop.

Someone bets a 1/4th of their stack on the third hand in a live tourney on the flop, they won't be folding. They'll probably just call it off because they don't want to be hamstrung for the beginning (even though in reality its not even that bad to fold) and, assuming its re-entry, figure they'll just buy back in if they miss that jack high flush and are out anyway.

Just fold the flop. He's betting into six people and you have 6 high.

Spew bro. There was no need to do that at all with those blinds relative to your stack. Immediate fold to villain on the flop.

I hate to GII this early and this marginally. Your edges will be much greater during late play when vills are tightening up for the money and don't have a good feel for push/fold once they are short-stacked.

Not trying to be mean here, but this play is beyond spewey. I mean you put your entire stack in with a baby flush draw on the third hand of the tournament against a very strong-looking hand.

A bit mad I think, even if you were just against the one player its too much too early, you never have much FE early in tourneys.also with all those behind you its even worse
