I have finally read it and have to thanks. A lot of crucial information in a very short form, great style too, thats why I think this is the best 180s guide I have read here.
Simple newbie question. Until we have a lot of hands on a player we really wont know too much about their ranges so do people here use some kind of default ranges for pushbots when we have limited information.
When you dont have reads, you play ABC poker - it is simple rule which is written in Harrington's books.
Translation of it to 180s can probably go like this:
If he got VP and PFR looking like villain could be knowing what he is doing in a long run, you can assume he pushes like reg but probably a little bit more tight. Otherwise he is two kind of a fish: passive fish (for example VP: 30/ PFR: 2, AF: 0-1) which generally pushes very tight and tends to call preflop instead of pushing even with a very small stack and aggresive fish (example: 50/24, AF: 3-7) which generally has every range very wide, therefore he or she has got pushing range loose too but tends to minraise rather with rags so you have to be prepaired to be knocked out when he overpushes his AK worried that someone will do with it the same thing he is doing to other fish all the time after the flop.
@furo: is this strategy applicable to 90-mans and 45-mans regular sit'n'gos?? I've played couple of them and I see that your guide is really helpful but was just wondering if I have to do any adjustments in the smaller than 180 players MTTs
you can definitely apply the fundamentals taught in this guide to any ssmtt regardless of size. obv there are parts of the guide that are tailored specifically for the 180 man structure, but everything else is good stuff.
Great guide. I will be living in a country where I can play on Stars again and plan to hit 180's extensively. This post is a bit old, how is the quality of competition post black friday as opposed to when this was written?
