[LIVE] OESD - Middle stages
I had just moved table after the break and I had played ~5/10 hands already. I had ~20,000 and the blinds were 400-800 with a 100 ante. In the hand prior to this I ended up getting it in with QQ on a KQ10 board which resulted in splitting the pot against KJ, which I looked pretty pissed about.
- Villain was a middle-aged, Asian guy. He was quite large and judging from the previous few hands he didn't seem too terrible. He was sitting on ~25,000.
- UTG was a middle-aged, white woman who I just split the pot with in the last hand. She has ~30,000 and apart from the previous hand I hadn't seen her play anything else.
UTG limped, I look down at KJss and raised to 2100, Villain (BU) calls, blinds fold, UTG calls.
(Pot: 7500) Flop: Q - 10 - X rainbow.
UTG checks, I bet 4000, Villain thinks for thirty seconds and then shoves, UTG folds.
The pot is ~34,500 and it costs me my remaining ~10,000 to call.
I elect to call knowing that I have an OESD and an overcard which is most probably against:
[equity is in the brackets for KJs against that hand].
Also, I thought that the risk was worth taking because if I win it would probably give me the chip lead, despite it probably being slightly -EV.
Where I think I could have done differently:
- I believe I bet too much on the flop. Perhaps 3000-3500 could have been better.
- Perhaps check/shoving against Villain if he bet and UTG folded would have been a better line.

pokerstove:
Hand 0: 42.041% 33.76% 08.28% 19053 4670.50 { KhJh }
Hand 1: 57.959% 49.68% 08.28% 28036 4670.50 { TT, 66, AcQc, AdQd, KcQc, KdQd, KJs, QTs+, Jc9c, Jd9d, Jh9h, AdQc, AhQc, AhQd, AsQc, AsQd, AsQh, KcQd, KdQc, KdQh, KhQc, KhQd, KhQs, KsQc, KsQd, KsQh, KJo, QTo+, Jc9d, Jd9c, Jd9h, Jh9c, Jh9d, Jh9s, Js9c, Js9d, Js9h }
I removed a few combos because I think sometimes villain will play them in a different way, but as you see, given the odds you're getting, it's a clear call.
I do like betting a little smaller on the flop, though.

I thought that. What about check/shoving?
I'm assuming you'd call too?

Re: [LIVE] OESD - Middle stages
I prefer betting, only a little smaller.
I'd call.

Re: [LIVE] OESD - Middle stages
This is an easy call. You are getting about 3.5:1 odds, which means you need 22.2% equity. I put in all the hands you said into the villain's range on this board. You have 44.27% equity. That's a snap call. If you had less than 22.2% equity, then you want to fold. That would suck since you are left with 12.5 bb..
If he had like 20% equity, so he was 2.2% equity away from making this call +EV, should he still call because he's gonna be down to such a short stack of 12.5 bb.. I think 12.5 bb is okay, but like if you had only 4 bb left, and somehow the call was -EV, I wonder if you should just call.. I think if it's -EV, it's typically gonna make the final result worse than the amount of chips you have over. Example: If you folded, you would have 10,000~ chips left. If you called with 20% equity, you would take the total pot (after you called), so 44,500 chips, multiply that by 20%, and you would be left with 8,900 chips on average.. So it would be more +EV to just fold. (Not sure if it would actually be more +EV, but the amount of chips you have left would be higher than if you made the call.. I know that folding is apparently 0EV, which is better than -EV lol..)
